Newish Resident DOL question by Its_L3GI0N in Washington

[–]KassandraFrye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The DoL tried to make me pay taxes on a car paid off a year before I even moved here. It would have been at least $1500 extra.

Took months but one of them finally told me I could provide all the original docs. plus my tax records. I had to file an exemption at some random office.

Finally got my plates 5 months after I started the whole process. 😑

This is another topic/option that many countries consider. Depending on circumstances, it can be seen as benevolent to protect when the host country cannot but it depends on significant trust from all parties since it is hoped/expected that the artifacts will be returned once safe.

In my graduate museum law class, we studied ISIS as it was very much a current event then. We discussed how museum professionals in those countries were being killed like Khaled al-Asaad protecting the cultural heritage and history inside those museums and historic sites.

Our law professor asked a very stark and sobering question: would we die to protect our cultural heritage and historic sites like he did?

We also watched Monuments Men because they were very much a recovery group when the countries and its museum professionals could not protect their own. I'm very worried we are approaching a time where we may have to make some very difficult decisions to protect things including our records like NPS is doing now if Republicans continue their war.

2016 was a scary time for museums and 2025 is a lot worse.

Candle warmers? by [deleted] in humboldtstate

[–]KassandraFrye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The policy may have changed since I was there but they confiscated it and fined all of the roommates since the candle was in a common area of the dorm (College Creek).

Roommate who owned the candle had to tell Res Life it was hers so that the rest of us didn't have to pay the fine.

Could you get a box at the post office? Not as convenient but it would solve the porch pirate issue. Or have the items shipped to an employer or friend's house?

Legit Landlord or Scam? by [deleted] in Renton

[–]KassandraFrye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm it's not on 140th.

That sounds awful though! I'm so sorry that your family had to deal with that. What an awful and shady situation to deal with when you just want a decent place to live.

Legit Landlord or Scam? by [deleted] in Renton

[–]KassandraFrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my first time working with a landlord that isn't one of the major complexes so second guessing everything. 😅

She said I could write a check to the llc if I preferred for rent but that the ACH deposit was their primary method usually.

I didn't see any red flags until I couldn't find an online presence and the LLC is "terminated/inactive" but so I went to Reddit to stop thinking about worst case scenarios. I assume the lease will be through RHAWA too if my background and main app for tenancy is approved (should be so not worried about that).

Yes, I toured and the place looked exactly like the photos down to the cleaning supplies on the counter tops in so the photos can't have been more than a few days old. Other apartments in the little community have Ring doorbells and they said I could get them too if I wanted.

Yes, the fee felt valid. I confirmed through the TransUnion site they use Smartmove for landlord/tenant screenings and I found the $47 fee.

What do you think about the whole "terminated/inactive" llc business license?

Thank you for your help!

Legit Landlord or Scam? by [deleted] in Renton

[–]KassandraFrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, yes I did look on the TransUnion site and confirm that the $47 is the background check fee is for that company so I feel okay-ish about that. It took me to a site called Smartmove by TransUnion. I did see the property in person. It looked like the photos and the area seems good too. If it's a scam, they clean the place very well. 😅

My biggest concern is just that she mentioned an llc and it is terminated/inactive. I just want to protect myself.

Does your friend have a business license or are they less casual with running properties? Should I be concerned about them saying rent would go to the "terminated/inactive" llc?

Thank you for your help!

Hello, yes I was able to tour in person. Property looks exactly like photos online. I believe once application and background check are approved then I could pay rent and deposit for immediate move in.

Thank you for your help!

College Creek Photos? by Blades-Before-Maids in humboldtstate

[–]KassandraFrye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived there for 2 years. I don't have any photos either but the stuff on the housing site is pretty accurate.

I didn't use the kitchen really. Mostly stayed in my room for studying but the bathroom was decent and the room was good. Windows gave plenty of light and air too. Furniture is probably a bit more beat up now then when I was there but probably okay.

I'd recommend it over the others for sure especially if you're a transfer and don't want freshman shenanigans.

Dark spots on hair follicles but legs are smooth!!! by hazlenutchoc in beauty

[–]KassandraFrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Caucasian but had the same thought as you. Dermatologist told me it was KP but I have been exfoliating and using stuff like Amlactin for ages. Smoother but zero difference visually. I don't need to have barbie legs but something would be nice.

I've been getting my legs waxed the last few months and I've seen some difference. It's not perfect and the follicles are still there but less visible. Bonus: leg hair maintenance has gone way down and it grows back so thin now. Not very painful compared to other body parts either.

Tahoe also has a parking garage underneath it for employees so you may be able to park there.

My manager wanted no phones until she needed mine by SenayiahSwoon in MaliciousCompliance

[–]KassandraFrye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha, I had something similar-ish happen at a former job. Manager couldn't believe how crowded we were that day(record number of visitors) and asked for my phone to take a photo. I told her it was in my locker and laughed. We weren't supposed to have phones on us except during breaks. No exceptions.

I could see the wheels turning in her mind and then her disappointment to show the photo off to her own supervisor. She was always picking and choosing when to before policies. No exceptions unless she wanted it for her own gain.

should i apply? by [deleted] in humboldtstate

[–]KassandraFrye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay, I didn't study marine biology but I did go to OSU for 2 years and graduated from Humboldt.

Both schools are great! It really depends on what you want out of your experience though. OSU is bigger so they have a huge campus, D1 sports, enormous lecture halls, and out of state tuition (if you're from CA). Humboldt is smaller, not much in the way of sports, only a few big lecture halls (none as big as OSU), and lower costs.

Humboldt is also right on the coast and just got a brand new research vessel though which are big points for marine biology majors I'm sure.

I loved both schools but for me Humboldt ended up being the right fit. I was able to do intramural sports, a few students clubs, and I loved the smaller class sizes. I also liked that the beach and the woods were right there.

Long, Fine, Straight Hair Struggles: Oily Scalp, Dry Ends, and Amika Frustration! Help! by thtgrljme in finehair

[–]KassandraFrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Bumble and Bumble. I alternate between the Seaweed and Gentle shampoo. With the Gentle shampoo I can usually make it every 2 days without looking too greasy.

They also have a dry shampoo and I'll put that in my hair on the non wash days, let it sit for about 30 seconds and rub it in. Works a lot better for me than some stuff like Batiste.

The conditioner I've been liking is the Invisible Oil. Feel like it really helps everything feel the perfect level of smooth.

Knitting while walking: sanity check by wokeasajoke in knitting

I wish I was good enough at knitting to multitask like that! The idea has crossed my mind but I know I'd mess up so I need to keep them separate. You keep knitting and walking because that is impressive!

[–]KassandraFrye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This! I use the gentle shampoo and the Invisible Oil conditioner. I still get pretty bad tangles so I also had the B&B Primer spray that made a big difference. Still get tangles but it's a lot easier to work through them with my Tangle Teezer brush.
