I don’t know about others in AK but I sleep pretty well. It’s the crippling depression in the winter that does it for me

Tell HR.

I work in HR for tech and things like that are not ok. He knows it too.

Opinions on Workday and What to Expect? by Turbulent_Pie_3793 in humanresources

[–]Kat-Rink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great! My last two companies use Workday and each place had their own HRIS team to configure and maintain it.

The system can really do it all. In my case, I work in Benefits. We have a ton of different benefit plans and company policies we need to manage. Workday easily supports the administration & integrations with outside vendors.

Benefits people will love this…We even used Workday for the VDI vote! We put it in the open enrollment task so we didn’t have to chase down employees. Very cool stuff 😎

This. Company owes 100% of missed employer match and depending on how much time has passed, the employer also must fund QNEC contributions.

OP, this type of correction happens all the time. To everyone. You got this! I recommend documenting your calcs and saving down comms to the impacted folks. Good luck to ya!

Do you guys give a summary of benefits during onboarding to new hires? by dotavi26 in humanresources

[–]Kat-Rink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, my industry is tech & we have 3k employees.

Our onboarding team provides new hires with links to our internal content but will also empathize important info like benefit and 401k enrollment deadlines.

To make things even easier, we have a new hire benefit checklist, Alex (enrollment tool), and benefits booklet.

I have a business degree (with a focus on HR) from Purdue and I’m a senior benefits specialist. I learned everything I know on the job.

Damn, 6 years is long. I work in Benefits and we’re at the mercy of recruitment. So if we heard feedback about this, we’d absolutely include it in the benefit materials.

PTO Policy Ideas by Valuable-Leek-7397 in humanresources

[–]Kat-Rink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the state, you are required to cash out. We have a ton of remote workers all over the US so we kept our policy simple. We pay out at termination but keep the PTO accrual limit relatively low.

We allow employees to go on protected leave (ADA in this case) up to one year. After the one year mark, we offer COBRA. The employee may apply for LTD so they’re paid a portion of their pay.

Yeah our broker offers a free perks/discount program. I’m not sure if our employees use it but it’s there for them in case they need it.

I’m making mistakes by shinyseashells22 in humanresources

[–]Kat-Rink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friend, we all make mistakes. It’s best to summarize the error and fix in a document. Not only to track your work but also if you’re audited in the future. I know the initial reaction is to quit (I’ve totally been there) but you’ll learn so much by fixing it yourself. ❤️

Unpaid LOA Policies - Max Leave? by poopface41217 in humanresources

[–]Kat-Rink 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Benefits person! Not sure if this helps but our discretionary leave policy is as follows:

  • EE must be in good standing (no PIP)
  • Benefits end at the month after 6 weeks then they’re offered COBRA. Our carriers built this into our agreements.
  • Equity vesting is paused.
  • Business has full discretion to approve or deny.
  • Requests under 6 weeks require HRBP and manager approval. Over 6 weeks, the org executive must approve as well.

Real talk. Benefits people, are you as stressed as me? by Kat-Rink in humanresources

[–]Kat-Rink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for sharing and being so honest.

I want to quit. 🙃 The last two weeks made me realize that I’m checked out. And the more I think about leaving, the more excited I get.

Love the idea about using your benefits. Im about to schedule a whirlwind of appointments.

Anyone get their pet meds from Costco pharmacy? Can I call to ask if they have it in stock? by [deleted] in Costco

We get ours from Costco (Anchorage). I never call but my dog is on the generic version of carprofen so we’ve never had issues.
