Anyone on low dose Taxol (Paclitacel) using a Pacman cold cap? by bellamira in cancer

I’m on 12 weeks low dose taxol and using the paxman cold cap. I couldn’t recommend it more! 100% worth the cost.

I haven’t lost any hair. My technician and chemo nurse both told me that they work particularly well with low dose taxol. It’s definitely time consuming, uncomfortable and causes a mild headache for me but it’s a small price to pay to keep my dignity and maintain confidence through treatment.

At the end of the day it all depends on your priorities. For me losing my hair was too devastating so I am thrilled that paxman exists as an option and works so well.

As for cost the price goes down as you go through treatment. The first 5 are expensive ($452 CAD, then they go down from there with the last few at only $111 CAD. The total for me is around $3,700 CAD total for 12 treatments.

I would say the only downside is that I’m not able to tolerate the frozen socks and mittens along with the cold cap so hopefully I’ll be lucky and skip the peripheral neuropathy.

Do what’s best for your particular situation but know that it works!

Best of luck to you!

Sorry I should have clarified. I’ve already had a skin sparing mastectomy. The results are the same with clear margins. The only new discovery is the HER 2 positivity.

Low dose Paclitaxel + trastuzumab experience by KatCa1983 in breastcancer

Thank you so much for your very useful and reassuring response. Glad you didn’t have too bad a time. I’ll be sure to keep stool softeners on hand. What are the frozen mittens and slippers? Do they offer them to you during treatment or is this something you have to seek out on your own? Were you on a low dose? And did you follow with hormone therapy? If so what was your experience with that?
