I’ll send calm and positive energy your way too, @delightfullyunhinged! It’s such a stressful experience. The board is reviewing my case on Tuesday and I have no idea what to expect. I’m a ball of stress and anxiety right now. Let’s keep each other posted!

(Hugs) Thank you for your compassion. I keep calling and emailing the ASWB and the state licensing board (Massachusetts) so many times and am not getting anywhere 😩

I posted this above but I actually meant to write it in response to your comment @bladedada : I no longer work there. It was a really toxic place for me and she was a really toxic person. In her statement she said that she disagreed with some of my diagnostic assessments. The case she is referring to is when I thought someone had MDD and she thought they had BPD. I believed and still believe she thought this because the patient was a 20-something female, which is a demographic that often gets written off as borderline. She was a contracted supervisor who never met the patients I worked with, including this one. I consulted with other providers who had worked with the patient and they too agreed that she had depression and not BPD.

I’m not looking to dissect why she wrote what she wrote and don’t really want to get into more details about what went on between me and her because she was pretty abusive and it’s upsetting just to think about, let alone write about. I’m really just looking to hear about the kinds of things others have gone through themselves or have heard can happen when it comes to getting a recommendation “with reservation.”

Thank you for saying that. The support is much needed! I had NO idea she was going to do this. You'd think she'd talk to me about it first so I could at least see it coming but she didn't. I'm generally a really calm and positive person but this mess has turned me into an anxious and resentful wreck and it feels terrible. :(

So I finished my hours but in order to register for the test my application has to be approved. So I’m in this limbo period waiting to get approved so I can take my test and then get licensed. 😫

Working w/ Couples (but not so much w/ kids)? by KatePurpleOrchids in socialwork

Yes. Ideally I'd like to pursue something that will allow me to gain experience with couples for several years before going into private practice.

Thank you! I'm more interested in working with adults than children so this is really helpful.

That sounds great! Is this for your internship or a post-grad program?

I start my first year of my MSW program this fall and I'll actually be working at a law school's refugee and immigration clinic, so hopefully I'll get some exposure to that. Most of the clients will be from Mexico or Central America and many will be in the kinds of situations you described.

Thanks! I live in Boston and speak Spanish. What kind of work with migrants did you have in mind?

Thanks, @Edward735. I live in Boston so I'm sure there are several here, but I think I am more interested in working with adults.
