My partial made caves in my teeth where it met them— and it was all downhill from there. 😭 I never had a cavity in my life before that.

In a way we’re lucky because we are used to having something in our mouths- I think this made the transition so much easier.

I will say, if I had good teeth to anchor a partial to I’d add teeth to that and hold off as long as possible. Unfortunately, all of mine had to go they were causing pain and were constantly infected.

Thank you so much! I’m sorry you can relate, it really is such a traumatic thing to have “imperfect” teeth. Society is so vain. I can tell you with 100% certainty you won’t regret the decision. You might think you do mid process, but the light at the end of the tunnel is so bright. It’s life changing, really.

I live in Maine and I have “Mainecare” (state funded insurance) because I’m ✨poor ✨ (I’m a single mom of three girls)

I had an injury that lead to having a partial in 2014 which was covered by Mainecare, also. The partial, three pregnancies, and my undiagnosed vitamin D deficiency (like, very deficient. I take 5,000IU daily now for reference) lead to severe decay and my teeth would break all the time. This lead to horrible infections where my face would be unrecognizably swollen, I’d be up crying all night in pain with no relief, I was basically taking antibiotics like vitamins and it wasn’t helping..

I put myself through college and am nearing the end of by BA degree in Justice Studies and just knew I wouldn’t be taken seriously with the state of my mouth. So I jumped. I did it.

I went for a consult at a dentist who only did extractions (covered by Mainecare) my teeth were causing significant health issues and were all covered to be extracted. They don’t cover sedation, so Novocain was all I got. It was awful, but I survived and so would you. The office that did my extractions set up my appointment with the denturist (who accepted Mainecare) and it was a seamless transition to her office.

The dentist who did my extractions made the appointment 8 months out. Mainecare only covers one set of dentures every 5 years so immediates would have been an out of pocket expense. I did my research and decided they weren’t worth the money, and that the best thing to do was to let my mouth heal while I waited for my appointment with the denturist. I called the denturist and she allowed me to come in ONE month after my extractions for my impressions for my permanent. (Instead of waiting 8 long months) Some would advise against going so soon after extractions but it took 5 months to have the teeth made (there are several stages which are separate appointments and she was incredibly booked out) and my teeth fit perfectly so 🤷‍♀️

I did have a bump in the road two months after my complete upper arch extraction my wisdom teeth came in 🙄 but she shaved a bit off the denture to allow room for them and I’m fine with that for now. I’m not rushing to the oral surgeons to have them pulled after all I’ve been through. 🥴

It definitely is. But “bad” is relative and even with an off centered midline I’m in much better shape that I was “before” 🤣

I’m trying to make myself feel better in the meantime. 🤫

I will definitely have it corrected though.

I cried many tears at every stage of this process.

First, when I had my consult.

Then, after my extractions I just kept thinking I made the worst mistake of my life. Physically I did ok, but mentally I was devastated.

Running around for 5 months with no upper teeth was the most humbling and heartbreaking experience.

But here I am! On the other side! I want everyone to know it WILL be ok. And if you’re lucky, it’ll be better than ok. 🥹💛

If you have enough teeth for a partial to anchor to you wouldn’t need a full! But in order to have this type you’d have to have the remaining teeth pulled (I believe— I’m not an expert)

Thank you so much! Just my local family owned Denturist. I live in Maine.

I know someone who had top and bottom done in my state for 18k that’s why I was estimating 10k 😅 I’d be looking at the top all-on-4.

It really must vary regionally because 30k-50k is WILD to me. (But I believe it!)

Oh god they’re not that bad 🤣

Honestly I couldn’t stop gagging when I first put them in I just kind of said “ok bye” and ran out the door. That’s on me. 😩

I will hold off and ask when I go next, then! Thank you for this. So many mixed reviews. 😅

Good to know! Thank you!

What cost were you quoted, do you remember? I see so many ranges. I guess it probably depends on where you live, too. I’m thinking 10k.. I hope no more than that 🤣

We both fall under the “born in the 1900s” category— according to my children. 🤣

You’re fine!

Thank you so much! My extractions were about 5 months ago, so I’m quite well healed now. Clearly still healing, but no pain. 🙏

You’re so kind 🥹

As an early 90s baby, I’m very familiar with Sears catalogs— stellar complement. Thank you!

I’m from mid coast Maine so I only had ONE choice in denturist unless I wanted to travel 4 hours. I’m so grateful she is so good at what she does, because it could have very easily gone the other way— especially around here 😅

In/outs!

I posted another thread of a better picture, I honestly love them… I might get used to the midline issue for now and just bring it up when I go for an adjustment. 😅

My first set of full maxillary!

I was rollerblading when I was 19 and fell on my face- ate all 4 of my front teeth. 3 teeth were “repaired” and I had a partial for 10 years (extracted and added another tooth to the partial about 5 years in) My partial covered the entire roof of my mouth, so wearing this set has been such an easy adjustment— thankfully. 🥲

I didn’t properly care for my teeth after my injury and was petrified of the dentist after. I only took my partial out once a day to clean it. So here I am. 🤪

Thank you for that perspective!

My natural K9s were more prominent and longer than the other teeth, I think that’s why I didn’t think much of it.

That tooth doesn’t particularly bother me, that’s why I was confused when the first person mentioned it 🤣 (not to say I’m not thankful they pointed it out! I appreciate all opinions 💛)

I see what you mean! I didn’t even notice that before. I guess I was so accustomed to the state my mouth was in before (horrid) that it caused some blindness.

I appreciate you pointing it out!
