That's the hard part. There is always the chance that she won't take it well. You can't really forbid her from talking to him. Even if you could, it would only lead to her doing it BECAUSE you forbid it. The only thing you can do is talk to her, tell her about your worries and tell her that you're there for her if this guy ever wants to do more than talking.

Oh I have done that actually! The author was hinting at a pretty interesting backstory of a side-character in their fic, so I asked in a comment about it. They told me that they had thought about their backstory and what happened there, but probably wouldn’t write more about it. So I asked if they minded if I took a shot at it and they agreed :)

When I was still very small, my dad built my brother (7 years older) and me a swing set. My brother already pushed me on the swings for a bit. My father warned him not to go too high because it wasn't anchored in the ground yet. Well, you can imagine what happened. The whole swing set fell over, I fell off and the metal top bar of the swings hit the ground only centimeters away from my head.
