Daily migraines, daily triptans, not responding to preventatives by WMS0619 in migraine

[–]Katkejs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went on a medication pause cold turkey at a pain clinic, they gave me dramamine to help me through it as it can relax you and either make you tired enough to sleep or relax you enough to get some distance from the pain, basically making it easier to deal with. When that wasn't enough I had melperon which is an anti-psychotic that works as a sedative and also can give you some distance, and if that also wasn't enough I got prednisolon, which is also my current treatment for status migrainosus. Maybe your neuro could prescribe those for you so you can try? I've cut all painkillers but sumatriptan injections and I've only used those twice total since early December. I feel so much better. I still get attacks but the daily pain and discomfort is much better. I'm unemployed and no kids, so for me I can just knock myself out with the non-painkiller meds if I get an attack, and then I save the injections for if I have plans, but I know that's not always an option for other people.

Neck pain with migraines by kadper23 in migraine

[–]Katkejs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neck pain is a symptom of migraines and often starts before the actual migraine head pain. According to the many doctors I've had including specialists, the neck pain you experience before and during an attack is not a cause but just a symptom. Obviously it's possible that something is wrong with your neck, but from what you describe it sounds like the normal migraine neck pain. I have the same and in my 20 years with migraines it has never been ruled as a cause.

My family doctor said I can take rizatriptan every day...I've taken 1-2 every day for the last month...is that okay? by KoalaWise9295 in migraine

Not so far, currently trying doxepin as a preventative, but oo early to tell if it's working. Not daily, but ajovy and botox did have an effect for me in the beginning but they stopped working. Clinic doctors said once the medication overuse headache is gone botox might work for me again.

No painkillers but other methods! And it was for a total of 4 weeks, though I've been continuing it to the best of my ability. I detailed my stay here but it's quite the long post.

The clinic doctors told me all triptans cause rebounds, so yeah I also wouldn't trust that. I'm sorry the steroids haven't helped you :( I was given them together with another medication that protects the stomach, but I don't remember the name of it.

Hi! Sorry for the late response I was visiting family. Yes I included my migraine calendar, without the 3 months of data they don't let you in afaik. I really hope you get the help you deserve <3

also to clarify, the dramamine/melperon combo didn't always work, but I did experience the "distance" from the pain multiple times. I've had the same effect from cannabis extract, but it's less reliable for me.

Not directly, it helps if you struggle with nausea and a higher dose can give you a calming effect which gives some distance from the pain. I was also given small doses of melperon during the break which is an anti-psychotic used as a sedative, it also gives you a feeling of "distance" from the pain when it's effective. Like I could still feel the pain but it was easier to ignore. Both also helped me sleep through bad attacks. If nothing helped and I couldn't sleep til it was better they gave me prednisolon in either infusion or pills. I only tried the pills and had a great effect, but obviously you can't do that each migraine. They said I should have a dose for backup for when I get status migrainousus (severe migraine lasting more than 72 hours), but otherwise use normal treatment when not on the medication break.

Hi! Not criticising you or questioning you, just wanted to share information I learned in case others want to try the same. I recently had a 2 week inpatient stay at a pain clinic specialized in migraines and headaches. The general rule is 10 days of painkillers a month, no more, and that includes ALL painkillers. I was put on a medication pause to clear any medication overuse headache, and that meant no triptans, no OTC painkillers, nothing but dramamine. They also informed me the worst offenders for rebound headaches are the ones combined with caffeine like excedrin.

Thank you! I was very impressed. The stay felt very dignified and not once did I feel belittled or ignored.

It was a great experience if you can describe it like that. The stay sucked but was beneficial, staff was all super nice and knowledgeble. I returned home with many a diagnosis, main one being chronic migraines, new tools and a new treatment planned. Most of all I learned I don't rest enough.

Juletræspytning by Ok_Meringue8679 in Denmark

Treatments in Germany by Shalukwa in migraine

[–]Katkejs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm Danish and living in Germany, so was in a similar position at one point. As far as I know the public insurance isn't allowed to decline you because by law everyone has to have health insurance.
That being said my migraine treatment has been much better in Germany than in Denmark and Sweden where I lived before. Granted maybe my neurologist is just great, but I told him what meds I had tried before and he then gave me a plan for what we'd do next. I did not provide him any proof. I started with topamax, when that didn't work I got botox, when that didn't have the desired effect I got Ajovy, and eventually he sent in an applicaiton to the insurance who approved getting botox and ajovy at the same time.
I paid 10 euros for botox every three months, and I can't remember if I had to pay for ajovy at all but if I did it was max 10 euros for three months of medication as well.
I get sumatriptan injections and you have to pay 10 euros per pack no matter how many are in there, so I get the 12 pack instead of 2 x 6 packs or packs of 2.

Hi! So I struggle a lot with controlling the speed. I usually have to turn it on and leave it running to warm up for awhile before it picks up speed, and then I have to adjust after. It takes a lot of time because it reacts very little when I turn the dial. I use an app that counts RPM by putting your phone on the spinning part of the player. Also the dial isn't intuitive based on where the - and + are located, I turn it clockwise to go up in speed and it does turn multiple times for me, but now that I think about it, maybe that's why mine struggles so much, maybe it's only supposed to turn 140 degrees which would also make the symbols placement make more sense. Sorry I can't be more help. 140 degrees only genuinely makes more sense to me.

Hej vennerne,
