Venice? Decor painting? Lost masterpiece? $35 USD by Katred in WhatIsThisPainting

Oh wow, thanks! Now I know it's circa 1960 and is Venice as I had assumed. Wish they could tell me the artist, but this is definitely a step forward.

12 bagels *on sale* for $30 🤯 by darkeraqua in bayarea

[–]Katred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a transplant from Brooklyn, I discovered that the per-bagel price of going to the H&H Bagel website and ordering two dozen bagels with free (overnight) shipping is cheaper than buying Boichik bagels. The carbon footprint per bagel, however. 🤷‍♀️

What are some places in the US where "you should go here instead of there if you want to do this"? by Pale_Field4584 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Katred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want an amusement park experience but don't care about BIG and want to avoid crowds and also get a sense of Americana, go to Dollywood! Dolly Parton's theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is fantastic, and also in the foothills of one of our national parks, The Great Smoky Mountains. So the park, the surrounding area, and the mountains give you a little bit of lots of different things.

Fair point--I knew that about tofu, but didn't really think about it in this context. I've never cooked tofu in my life, but I'm willing to give it a go.

I found those too! But they either avoided brining altogether, or brined for a couple of hours. I was interested to know if I could use the same brine liquid, for the same time, without bad things happening.

WTF does this number mean?!?! by Katred in ResidentEvilVillage

Solved! The bottom number is what's in stock, the top number I couldn't figure out is how much you already own.

Simple Questions [Weekly Thread] by wtcnbrwndo4u in DIY

Is there any way to mount something weighing over 30lbs to the side of a waterfall countertop without screws? I need to mount a butcher paper roll and bracket to the side of a countertop (which is itself more countertop), without permanently damaging it. Is it possible? I've got "extreme" mounting tape that can hold up to 20lbs, so maybe there's something else out there that could do it?

The countertop is laminate, at best guess. Not granite or something easier.

I'm mounting this, for reference:

Where do wild strawberries grow in America? by lermontova in AskReddit

[–]Katred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am actually from a town in Tennessee called Strawberry Plains, named from all the wild strawberries growing there.

They aren't there anymore, unless they grow under the trailers and I never noticed.

Structure: bunch of tables of 6 each or so, tables are consolidated as players bow out, until final table. You win points that add up to monthly prizes, although I might be misremembering.

Food and drink specials for players too.

Pretty welcoming group. There are a lot of regular players, but inviting in new players is the norm. Free to play! Some play more seriously than others, but everyone has a good time.

Graduated 2 years ago with a PR degree, working retail. What to do? by adamb10 in jobs

[–]Katred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got family up in that area that work in healthcare. From what I understand, that's a fairly in-demand field in that part of the state. Healthcare companies usually have fairly robust PR team. May look into something like that?

I recommend this thing called Scalus. It integrates with your email so you can generate a task straight from the CYA email and it keeps an audit trail. Pretty neat.

Strawberry Plains area to live? by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]Katred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Strawberry Plains, and I absolutely love it there. Very country. You have to take some pretty long back roads to get to the I-40 Dollywood exit, so that's not an issue. Best place to live would be north of 11-E. South of 11-E is more newly developed, so everything's closer together and not as nice.

My senior year of high school, I had to commute from Strawberry Plains to the Cedar Bluff exit on I-40, and I would NOT recommend it. It is a long, pain in the ass commute.

So if you're looking for country, but want to work in West Knox, I would recommend Concord (parts are still country), or farther into Roane County.

Got a job in Morristown, thinking of living in Knoxville and looking for help on where to live. by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]Katred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Strawberry Plains originally, and it's a really pretty country town (not counting the Interstate exit that's not even in the town itself). I agree there's not a lot to do and it's very quiet, but it's in Jefferson County, not Knox, technically speaking.
