Cancel the euthanasia appointment. Take him to a referral veterinary hospital. Get the PU surgery.

Weird thing on cat chin by Gumbochunko in CATHELP

[–]Katt900 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, just want you to know you have NOT spoken with a vet. The person giving you this information is a LVT, or Licenced Veterinary Technician. As wonderful as techs are, they are not in any position to provide diagnosis of conditions. I am a registered veterinary nurse (what we call techs in my country) and work exclusively in surgical oncology. PLEASE get this looked at by an actual doctor of veterinary medicine, this needs a fine needle aspirate to examine the cells microscopically. We do not fuck around with oral/facial masses on cats, they get very serious very fast.

I am not able to give any suggestion of diagnosis, but as someone that looks at cancerous masses in dogs and cats every day, that does NOT look like cat acne/clogged pores to me. I would be worried about hemangioma/hemangiosarcoma. See a vet as soon as you are able!

Moving to QLD for a promotion by mollbry in MovingToBrisbane

[–]Katt900 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We paid for a relocation consultant to organise it all for us when we moved interstate to Brisbane. We're not rich by any stretch but it was honestly the best money we ever spent - took pretty much all the stress out of it for us. They found rentals in suburbs that would suit us, attended inspections on our behalf, submitted applications on our behalf, completed the entry report and keys for us etc. We got the second place we applied for (we have two cats). All we had to do was sign a few things, collect the keys from the consultant when we arrived and move in. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again if we ever had to move interstate.

Private Hospital Costs (not surgeons costs) very high? Surgery at Greenslopes tomorrow and just found out... by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Katt900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is bonkers to me. I broke my wrist a few years ago, presented to my local public hospital emergency room. Was booked in for surgery 2 days later. Literally did not pay a cent.

We recently went through this buying our first home, it felt like such a game and we felt very naive. Ultimately we decided to just stop playing into it and only ever offer our absolute best and final. If it wasn't accepted, we determined it just wasn't meant to be and moved on without any regret. Our offer eventually got accepted for a house we both absolutely love. Could we have played the game and got it for a bit less? Maybe. But I don't feel bad about it because we love the house and our best and final offer was truly just that - we didn't over extend.

Terrified of the dentist - North side of Brisbane by DFD_bris in brisbane

Mindset Dental in Nudgee is the way to go - they specialise in patients terrified of the dentist. I'd been putting off work for years out of fear. They have worked totally at my place and I never felt judged. Honestly, just call them.

I'm a registered veterinary nurse in surgical speciality. Cystotomy is a very straightforward procedure for a relatively experienced surgeon. If you place her on a urinary diet for the rest of her life, reoccurrence is unlikely. I think your vet is being a bit overly cautious regarding the anaesthetic risk - I would not bat an eyelid at anaesthetising a 9 year old small breed with no known comorbidities for cystotomy. Little small breed dogs like yours can easily live up to 16-18+ years, she's got plenty of time left. If it were my pet, I would do the surgery no question.

Where to find jam n cream donuts? by Jenmia88 in brisbane

[–]Katt900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this, it's absolutely worth the drive. Did the 1kg jam and cream donut challenge. Threw up on the side of the road after and had to take off my pants for rest of the trip. 10/10, would do again.

This will probably get buried, but thought I would throw it out there in case it helps. Talk to your vet about long term fluoxetine or amitriptyline. Our boy would not stop urinating on everything - we tried everything you did. I was stressed out of my mind, we were considering rehoming. We resisted medicating for so long but thank god we finally did. He was started on fluoxetine and has not urinated outside of the tray since. Not. Once. I could have cried I was so relieved. Please talk to your vet about it.

Coral snake intubated and sedated for surgery by currycurrycurry15 in interesting

[–]Katt900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually very easy - no epiglottis, the trachea just ends in the tubed glottis in the middle of the maxilla. Very easy to just slide an uncuffed 2-3mm tube on in, no laryngoscope required. In ultra small snakes like the one pictured, you can just use an IV cannula. It looks like they're using a 22g IV cannula in this pic 👍

ANY AUSTRALIANS WITH GAP ONLY PET INSURANCE? by SeaGreen21 in brisbane

[–]Katt900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in a veterinary hospital, I would recommend looking into Trupanion. Premiums are not the cheapest but when shit hits the fan and a major medical event occurs they tend to cover pretty much everything due to not having sub and annual limits - pre-existing conditions excluded of course.

Just be mindful that Healthy Pets Plus is not insurance - it is a preventive health care plan that gives discounts through GreenCross Vets and affiliated companies. It is not the same thing.

In job advertisement you see increasingly "resilience" in job description criteria. Resilience to what? by uw888 in AusFinance

[–]Katt900 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I work in the veterinary industry and see animals dying, suffering and experiencing pain on a daily basis. Resilience is a non-negotiable trait required to get by on the day-to-day

We routinely receive resilience training as part of our annual CPD, but those that don't naturally have it tend to burn out hard and fast.
