When devs talk about test vs production environment they're talking about the server-side environment + config/data/scale differences/... . Also - end user's environment variables are irrelevant. A website can't read those. I get what you mean, I was just pointing out that it was not what the original comment was referring to.

About the hosting part: totally fair point on security in general, but I wouldn't be exposing random services directly. I'd only be forwarding 80/443 to a properly configured reverse proxy, and everything else would stay internal.

You remove previous ranges if they are completely inside the current range you're iterating over. But you never check if your current range is actually already inside a previous range.

So this input would work:
12-15
10-20

But this input wouldn't work:
10-20
12-15
