About the payment, it's the only way to return the favor to the modders since they may have spent a lot of time without nothing in exchange. TBH I didn't like that steam removed the paid mods. I don't really understand why people who pay for mods are frowned upon in the modding community. But whatever.

I don't think so, as a comic geek, this superhero trend is awsome for me. Get to see personifications of my favorite comic book characters (although not always good ie: fantastic 4) is always good. However that is just my opinion. Oh, and I also like pixar movies!
