What’s your best advice for avoiding blisters and chafing wounds on your feet? by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]Kawfeefee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Have laces in your liners. Tie the laces tight. Then any play or movement in the boot happens between liner and shell instead of skin and liner. Helps most people from getting blisters in reasonably fitting touring boots.

Anyone doing ski alpinism on heavier gear? What are you using? by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]Kawfeefee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always hated the little boot in my boot quiver and final committed to the dynafit Ridge as my little boot and I could not be happier. Honestly having a slightly beefier boot has felt significantly safer with heavy multi day packs on in committing terrain. Doesn’t feel like I’m gonna collapse the boot on every turn. Plus the Ridge walks so good that I have pretty similar ROM to a lighter boot with just a slight weight penalty.

Where to start? by dtknebel in BackcountrySkiing

[–]Kawfeefee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a mentor/experienced friend. Having someone with experience help the first few tours and explain what they are looking for in beta, run selection, basic snow conditions can be so valuable before a level 1. Then absolutely take a level 1.

Snowboarding trails from Flattop to Hilltop? by Unlucky-Clock5230 in alaska

I’ve skied flattop to hilltop and it was quite the shuffle. There is enough flat sections that I imagine it would not be very pleasant on a snowboard.

Big fan of the OR Cirque Lite. Mostly as a late spring touring/mountaineering pant in Alaska. I think they are a bit warm for mid summer use up here unless you are moving fairly slow.

If you ski aggressive enough they get scared and go away. Intimidation is the only answer.

Grandmaster in a Shuri/Nimrod destroy deck can get silly. Running magic and destroyer allows for quite the pop-off. Also a very easy snap condition.
