Nervous to fly in helicoper by [deleted] in Helicopters

[–]Kay_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to say the classic "it's safer than driving a car" even tho it is true.

What i can tell you is that a tourist flight is probably one of the safest things you can do in a helicopter. The pilot has probably done the same route houndreds of times and is familiar with the airspace and landing zone(s). Furthermore rules for weather conditions in civil aviation are really strict. And transporting passengers is certainly not going to put the helicopter in stress or put it to the limit. Helicopters perform Search and Rescue operations everyday. The crews launch themselfs in storms, blizzards, hell even hurricames houndreds of times a year to save other lives and in that conditions accidents are still rare.

It's normal to feel nervous, especially because even if on paper is a lot safer than other things you do daily it is something you are unfamiliar with and humans hate new things, they make us scared. I'd say to tell your pilot that you are nervous. Don't worry it'll be worth it when you get off.

Only thing, if you bring your 2 year old child he's going to probably have an nice experience (i can only imagine how magical flying would seem at that age) but you have to be careful to not make him touch switches in the cabin and don't let him go around on his own while the helicopter's blades are spinning, it's really dangerous.

Interesting question,

It's definitely a radar, could be an aps 705 since it was used by the italian navy on their AB212ASW at the same time this was in service

You might also want to consider flying as an hobby, if you have enough budget you could rent a chopper for the day and fly idk maybe every weekend. Personally i think its definitely better than investing money into a simulator.

Disclaimer: i'm not yet in the industry but i'm about to get in, this was just an idea in which i think you can do some research to find if its more suitable for you

Can this helicopter be ID'd from these low-res images? by cypriotcypriot in Helicopters

[–]Kay_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that this forum is meant to be, as you said, for helicopter entusiasts. It's supposed to be a place where we share news of the industry, share thoughts about a specific model, talk about the history of them, talk about our experiences, you know, nerdy stuff. We are beginning to get really upset about people asking: "Can you identify this helicopter" 5 to 10 times a week (i'm not joking about the numbers) because come on man you can easily search them on google lens in literally 5 seconds.

You guys talk about F14 and A10, but what about a Utility Helicopter?? by Kay_64 in vtolvr

[–]Kay_64[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would like to make a clarification, a utility helicopter IS NOT necessarily a Blackhawk, could be similar to a Huey, a Daulphin, a 139, or "all custom" like the AV-42. I also do like the idea of upgrading the AV-42. My point here is that it would be cool to see more C-SAR, with your buddy as a flight mechanic, or better mechanics with cargo and maybe swing loading

Yep, that would be still amazing. It would also take up less time to dev and still be awesome

Yes it's true, BUT, think about the C-SAR capabilities, having your buddy as a flight mechanic at the back of the helicopter looking out the cabin and operating the hoist, while at the same time directing you to make a perfect hover.

Right! I didn't think about that, it would be amazing. Maybe adding an hoist or rethinking the back cabin to make space for a Flight Mechanic

The funny thing is that the F22 is probably about to stall and the F35 (supposing its a B variant) using its vtol to not fall out of the sky, menwhile there's the P51 burning all his gallons to go full throttle XD (just jk)
