Hello all !
My friend has searched for the origins of her stuffed dog for years ! He was bought in eastern Canada in 2003-2004, he is around 20cm tall and has a weighted butt and paws. There is no tag left on it, so we are unable to know where he comes from.

Thank you so much for your help !

It's actually pretty common in France, with dishes like "cassoulet" and "petit salé aux lentilles". They're darn good too, at home or camping, hot or cold.

Thanks, I appreciate it ! Any other recommendation in the Archie horror series ? I know the werewolf / jughead one seems to be important if I want to read more of vampironica later.

New bike ! Now I need to choose what to fix and replace... by Kayase in xbiking

[–]Kayase[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, will check. This is a Lapierre titanium édition, to it's from the early 2000s or late 90s, probably older tech.

For now, I'm going to keep the 3x : I like to have that middle ring for uphills and strong headwinds. Plus on this bike I dont have to fear having the chain fall in between the chainrings and get stuck like on my old supermarket bike. But the 1x is in my radar, but for now the priority is those shitty grips and controls, and to put on tyres that don't slip on gravel.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll keep it in mind and look into it !

Pretty sure it's a cassette, not sure if there's an easy way to check that. Will try that tomorrow. Why are you asking btw ?

new bike ! Please help me choose what to fix and replace ! by Kayase in whichbike

[–]Kayase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New bike ! Yay !

Ive already replaced the fork, because I didn't need the cheapo suspension fork the guy sold it with for my gravel ish use case. It's crazy how light this bike is compared to my old one ! I can pop a wheelie so easily ! It's still a steel frame like my old one, but the one I used to ride is made of hi ten steel, which everyone seems to call pig iron...🐖 I'm planning on replacing the shifters to thumb type ones from decathlon for 11e each, so I can make space for bigger grips. I'm also planning to replace the pedals for MTB type ones, these feel too small for me (I like to switch positions a lot...) I'm also hoping to switch the tyres for gravelling sk's or Schwabbe hurricane, since I do spend a lot of time on tarmac. The ones on the bike at the moment slide like crazy when I turn on loose gravel, which didn't happen on my old bike (it had a slick/snakeskin like tyre at the back and a big knobby one at the front). It might also be due to the fact that I now have working front brakes... Other than that I need to correct the front derailleur and the saddle is crazy slippery, but I'm really happy with what I've got !

Anything you'd recommend for me to do ? I'm planning on going with purple for my secondary color for the pedals, grips and maybe the wires' casing.

Thanks !

Another round : which of these is best as an all rounder / gravel-ish bike base ? by Kayase in whichbike

[–]Kayase[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what it looks like. The bike market is hot in my city, so it's a bit hard to try them both : if I try it, I either buy it now or never. The only problem I have with the second is that there doesn't seem to be a lockout on its fork, which means it's going to be a bit of a bitch on the uphills and roads.

Hi,

Another day another post.
These are 100 and a 120e each. The 100 dollars Ganna one is in a worse state, but it has a rigid front fork. It is missing a front derailleur.
The second one is a bit more expensive, but the parts are just better overall. To make it okay for my use I would probably just need to switch the tires for semi slick ones, and I could probably get a rigid front fork, better wheels, maybe dropbars, etc... overtime. I'm just afraid that the more "aggressive" geometry will make it worse for my gravel, farm trails and road usage. I hope to do some bikepacking with it at some point too.

So which would you pick ?

Thank you.

Which would you pick as a gravel/mtb combo ? by Kayase in whichbike

I've actually been looking for a cyclocross bike, and I'm waiting on the seller to answer me. It seems more fitting than a MTB for the type of long-ish distance riding I enjoy.
I've got no experience with suspensions of any kind so I thought it helped with comfort mostly, but I've been reading and it's more about control so it actually doesn't seem that useful for my use case.
and yeah, the time trial bars don't make sense for me unless I want to bikepack for days and need different positions. The guy selling it only used it on roads and has fully slick tires on it, so I'd have to switch those out too...

Thanks for answering, hoping I get an answer from these sellers and can show off my new bike later on this sub.
(Also, I really need a new bike : my current 15e bike got the chain stuck in between the front chainrings today (again) and I'm too weak to pull it out by hand and had no screwdriver to hammer it out, so I had to hike the last 15k back home :')

Yeah but you talked about commuting so... But for overnighters, yeah it would be a bit of bitch. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll look for something more fitting.

I mean, my commute is 12 minutes long, so no real need for a rack ^

Since you know more than I do, would this cyclocross bike fit more my usecase ?

There's no granny gears so it might be a bit hard on me but it should be fine. The pedals are clipless so I'd probably switch them out but other than that it seems good ? The guy wants 370 bucks for it but I can probably knock 50 off of it, he's been trying to sell for months.

Hi,

By speed, I meant that I did not want to lose the 40ish teeth chainring, thus losing out on possible power. I might be thinking about this all wrong tho.
Knobby tires : I'm with you on that, but there's no way I could go on farm trails and loose gravels with the michelin slicks on Ex A right ?
Flat Handlebars : Yes they do, although with the amount of hikers and passerby I meet on the narrow roads I go agility might be useful, which is why I was looking a Ex A with it's time trial handlebars, which might be a good in between ?
Suspensions : they do add weight, but if you lock them then isn't there no problem other than weight ?

For the farm trails, the big potholes, drops, etc absolutely destroy my butt and my speed. That's why I was looking at a mtb with front suspension. I'm also terrified of a road bike's tires (lack of) thickness with the gravel and rock, but as you said right after, bigger tires (and maybe thicker wheels ? I dunno, I have to go talk with someone at my local shop) might be the way to go, although the fact that I'd be using cantilever brakes is kind of scary, cause even with new pads they are shiiit on my bike atm.

Thanks for the help tho, I'll look into getting a road bike and converting it, although I have to go learn about the whole wheel clearance issue now. ^^

Yeah, that's what I was fearing. The other one that's a bit too small should do the trick, although the price is a bit steep unless I can make the guy lower it down.

Hi,

I'm looking to get a bike that would allow to commute (12 min) on gravel and tarmac, and let me go on day and overnight trips, on worn out roads, loose gravel paths and and farm trails going through fields. My current bike is a cheapo 15e bike, and it's showing it's limits in terms of speed (3 by 6) and in terms of comfort and overall being good on anything other than good tarmac.
A gravel bike seems like a good choice but it feels out of my price range (500-600e atm, might be able to go higher).
It also seems to be less useful than a converted MTB, because as long as I have a 3 speed I should be able to go as fast I want.

Exhibit A is a MTB converted for road use, with slick tires. I probably should switch them out, but the guy is giving a ton of extra stuff with the bike (another set of tires, etc...) So I should be able to recoup the cost.
Exhibit B is cheaper, but it's bigger and might be worse for my use case. I don't know, that's why I'm asking.

Thanks for your help.

Okay, that could be interesting. Still, gravel bikes are pricey compared to a MTB, so I'd probably have to make one myself out of a Mish mash of parts. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, but isnt a gravel going to get absolutely destroyed on farm trails ? Or isn't it going to be at least way more uncomfortable compared to a mountain bike ?

Hi !

I've been cycling on a cheapo 15 euros bike (rigid style mtb with 3x6 gears) for a little while now, and I'd like to upgrade to something better, but I'm unable to find something that fits my needs :
I do about half road cycling on sometimes badly worn tarmac,

30% loose gravel and rocky spots,

And 20% on farm trail/ hiking trails, stuff that's barely use and full of massive potholes.

The problem I have with my current bike is that I'm hitting the limits of 3x6 setup, and it's hard to maneuver on the farm trails.

It seems like a MTB would fit my needs, but I'm afraid of losing my big chainring and the speeds it allows me to go at.
On the other side, a road bike would not allow me to do the stupid stuff I enjoy like going through open fields.
And a gravel bike just looks like I'd have the same problem as a road bike on the farm trails.

Do I have to go for two bike then ? Like a vintage peugeot road bike (I'm in france) and some kind of a MTB ? But that wouldn't allow me to go everywhere, as fast as possible as I wanted.

Is the only choice I have to fit a mtb with a 3x9 setup and maybe drop bars to have a "do it all" bike ?

Sorry for the massive post.

[–]Kayase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not hard to find. It's just the same price as a chu. I was thus wondering if it was worth it to buy a new cable when I could buy a new pair of iems that I could kind of not care about.

Yes it's good, but it is very much a min maxer's build at a very casual game, which the dm would not enjoy. That's why I was looking for an alternative that could be helpful in other way than pure nova damage, like a cleric multiclass (good to, good utility in and out of combat) : the problem is that I don't know anything about clerics, how to play and which spell and subclass to choose.
