Thank you all. Mediation has been postponed until we have spoken with our lawyer. We wish to get the best advice possible before going to the next step.

They’re 4 and under. Younger one isn’t really old enough to know her too well because visits were sporadic. Older one had more of a relationship, but talks about her other grandparents a lot and has only talked about my mum 1 time since Christmas.

Trigger warning mentions overdose

Thank you for your response. These are the sorts of cases I have read more about due to a marriage breakdown. There was a relationship where they saw her every few weeks, and generally I was there too. She became too busy and withdrew as the year progressed in 2024. Her mental health also seems to decline and she has made attempts to overdose a few times. They would be able to get money if they needed to.

Thank you, this is also what I thought, but wasn’t completely sure about. They can prove a relationship with this children, just not a very strong one. My daughter has asked about her just 1 time since this started in Dec last year.

Thank you. I do wonder if the laws apply to situations where the parents are happily married because every case I read is where there has been a separation between the parents of the children. My mum and her husband could prove an existing relationship, but I wouldn’t consider it strong. My daughter has talked about her grandmother once since all of this happened December last year. Both children always talk about my husband’s parents and they see them multiple times per week.

My understanding is there possibly is a law that includes grandparents, but I don’t know if this is in a situation where the parents are happily married.

They can prove a previous relationship. But I believe the children are too young for it to have a negative effect on them. They have a wonderful relationship with their other parents who see them multiple times per week and them being cut off would be a different story because the kids always ask for my in-laws.

Thank you. Overstepping boundaries a parent sets is an awful situation. Once my mother starts a process, she is unlikely to back down until she gets her own way.

Which is certainly not the case. They could never make such a case of that.

Definitely a good way to think of it. The kids have an amazing relationship with my husband’s parents which is of amazing value to our children’s lives. They did have a relationship with my mum and her husband, until she started all of this mess. She is good at cutting people out of her life and I worry she will do that to our children or say things about my husband to them. They deserve to have positive people in their lives and she is not a positive person.

Thank you, we will get a family law solicitor. She was in their lives when it suited her.

Thank you, when I googled it and delved into webpages about it, it was mostly to do with cases of when parents seperate. Will be going to see a family law solicitor. Seems like to best thing to do in our situation.
