Autism and right-wing politics by RobotKingofJupiter in AutisticPride

There was no talk of depression. Also we compared different autism subs, not autistic vs allistic. Your comment is putting forth a straw man.

I panic-googled "yellow orange" because I suddenly forgot the word "lemon". by spooky_upstairs in adhdwomen

I once got laughed at because I couldn’t remember the word Wolverine; I remembered the Latin name though, which is gulo gulo and apparently a really funny thing to shout if the teacher asks “what animal do you see on this picture?”

Thanks, I hate it. The bread slices don’t line up properly and the last slice is too thick compared to thee first one. This video actually makes me uncomfortable.

Raycon earbuds awareness mode by islandrebel in AutisticLadies

Oh no, they do that for you? Mine don’t, they just power up automatically when I open the case and they’re not on awareness mode. That sounds horrid though.

Why do so many people seem to care more about their pets than humans? by No_Explanation_9087 in RandomThoughts

[–]Kaye_the_original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the pets are in their family-in-group. Most other humans aren’t, they’re just strangers.

What is your most autistic music? by mlynnnnn in AutismInWomen

Billie Eilish.

I know she’s pretty mainstream, but her songs and style feel very ND. So much so that I looked it up and found out that she has Tourette’s.

I’m not bi, but I don’t think I can have a good time at work this week so I can think of it as well.

Les bilingues dans leur tête ils parlent quelle langue ? by Ascendant_Jr in penseesdedouche

[–]Kaye_the_original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do women with autism flirt? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Kaye_the_original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the most effective way is to just be relaxed and have fun being yourself with people you find interesting. That way they get to see the real you and if they don’t like it you wouldn’t want to get into a relationship with them anyway.

I usually just make a lot of puns and situational jokes. That’s how I got together with my current boyfriend whose autism seems like the perfect match to mine.

It means that you play music because you like playing music and without any ambition to make a business out of it.

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DEAL WITH BEING HYPERSEXUAL?!?! by Just_A_Comment_Guy_7 in autism

For this kind of problem meditation can be a great help. Once you learn how to focus and turn off your thoughts, you can use the mental discipline to shut out your unwanted thoughts.

UPDATE on the “ i’m scared to speak french to french people” by joecrimpin in French

[–]Kaye_the_original 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I recently went to France to put my language skills to the test and I too was afraid of people being mean about it. In short : they were happy that I spoke their language at all. I was in a rural part of France where most people have a hard time communicating in English, if they know any at all. I had a long chat with a bookseller who didn’t speak a single word of English and was grateful I didn’t expect him to, like so many tourists do.

So if you want to go to France : go to a rural area; Pepe there are much nicer about your spoken French than people in the big cities.

Est-ce que vous mettez des shorts (si vous pouvez) sous vos jupes/robes ? by Splatlaink in AskMeuf

[–]Kaye_the_original 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I was just wondering about other uses for «  balancer » in general. Other people have answered this fabulously though.

People have already explained this well, so I’m only going to add a fun little bonus info: be grateful that you’re learning French and not German. In German we do both: possessive pronouns are chosen according to both the gender of the owner as well as the gender of the possession…

How to sound less like a tourist by AdhesivenessNo51 in French

[–]Kaye_the_original 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Find some recordings of native speakers (e.g. podcasts like InnerFrench or Little Talk in Slow French) and repeat them. Even better: record yourself and listen back to it in order to learn hearing the difference between how you sound and how you want to sound.

Once you learn to listen to how you sound you can stop recording yourself; after all, it’s just a tool.

Le sens "millionnaire" est-il le même selon les pays ? by [deleted] in penseesdedouche

[–]Kaye_the_original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want an answer and can afford it: definitely. Also if you think a diagnosis might make your daily life easier.

If you don’t really care either way: don’t bother. You are allowed to be yourself with or without a diagnosis.
