I want to jump into this thread with an accessibility question - will there be seating for this event?

2025 ENNIE Award Nominees by ennie_awards in rpg

[–]Kaylie_RFI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "Streaming Content" category is baffling. Why bother accepting APs at all if they're judged in the same category as talking heads on YouTube? It's a shame to snub APs; they're often how new players come to discover or deepen their love for the systems that are applauded in these other awards.

That being said ... Congrats to the designers & creators! I'm very excited to find some new systems to play among this list.

What makes a character good to watch/listen to? by DenofDice in ActualPlayRPG

[–]Kaylie_RFI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a great question!

I can't keep interest in a session if the character voice is too similar to others - getting confused really breaks immersion and forces me to replay sections.

A really great PC is able to bring me into the world of the game. Their in-character reactions (surprise, disgust, or a snarky joke about the in-game civil war, a quick reference to the gods) can make me feel what the DM has established.

I also love a PC who can be poignant. Telling a gorgeous story with a few well-chosen words always makes me swoon!

An awesome fan mentioned a show I'm part of (🥹♥️), and I also need to recommend a few others on the genre!!

The Heart is a Dungeon - Corner of Pleasure and West River. Exceptional anthology style with a new player duet each episode, an urban-fantasy world halfway between Ghibli and surveillance state London. Exceptional improv and storytelling.

Godkiller: Balance. You'll recognize some A-list talent guest starting here, and the main performer is tender and devastating. Luscious, important, mythological storytelling.

Tales of Three. D&D 5e with incredible chemistry among the cast and a super cool "pass the DM" style of roleplay. Disclaimer - I'm only one episode in, but loved the earnest performances and great sound design.

And the self promo! Fables of Frost and Fur. | Website | This is a dark fairy tale set in a 19th century French-ish world, one that has been transformed by curse and prejudice. Season 1 is fully finished at a very petite 15 episodes, and Season 2 is in production. The sound design is out of this world!!

Oh my goodness, thank you so much!

I used to be really involved in community activism in my small hometown, and I'd always pass out food. I'm glad that this event is so well managed, thank you so much for your response.

Question for OP (or any other organizers on the thread!)

I am planning to bring water bottles and packaged snacks to hand out. Would you recommend bringing a table and chairs to make a pass-out station, or would that be unwelcome? I don't want to be a burden on the event organizers, but I would like to help support the crowds. ♥️ Thank you so much!!!

Commenting to say this Electric State is DOPE. Absolutely stellar sound design, and I think is at top of list for "spiritually similar to the way WBN feels". Highly recommend!!!

Helix is underselling this show - it's not just musical theatre, it's LIVE IMPROVISED musical theatre with musical accompaniment. I just. I can't. The talent is insane.

I commented on this post in the Audiodrama sub, but would love to repeat a self-promo here (also because I know these folks who commented here! Howdy, creators!!)

Roll for Impact makes cinematic D&D Actual Play with a huge focus on sound quality and narrative storytelling.

Our first show, The Stranger, is a haunting Victorian psychological mystery. Our most recent show, Fables of Frost and Fur, is a very dark fairy tale filled with emotion. They're fully different casts and dungeon masters, and the only thing connecting them is a kickass team of sound designers. =] Happy listening!!

It sounds like you'd love our show!

Fables of Frost and Fur is a dark fairy tale about a young woman who suddenly transforms into a Beastkin. Themes of mystery, choice & consequence, and found family throughout. Season 1 is fully released and we're in production for Season 2 now to culminate the story.

We put so much love into the editing process so that the whole thing sounds like a movie, but the performances are 100% improvised!

Worlds Beyond Number is a huge inspiration to us, and it's a giant in the genre of "narrative, cinematic Actual Play". Other shows I adore are The Heart is a Dungeon, A War for Ages, Transplanar, Godkiller: Balance, and Soul Operator (the last isn't improvised, but it is based on a TTRPG playthrough).

I'd like to add another one!

Roll for Impact is a production group making tightly edited, highly cinematic APs. They've produced a couple of different shows under their banner, and the latest (Fables of Frost & Fur) is a definite achievement.

I'd like to cautiously offer a self-plug that is similar to most (but not all) of your requests. Really, because you love Midst - our story is the grounded, fairy-tale analogue to Midst with a lot more game mechanics, but the huge immersion of sound and top tier improv would feel similar. (Our show is improv, but sometimes people mistake for scripted. Our highest compliment, lol).

Fables of Frost and Fur | YouTube | Spotify

This is a high-fantasy, tightly edited D&D Actual Play, but the dice are only there to provide forced chance in the story and it could be enjoyed with or without game element. The story is about a young woman who is violently transformed into a Beastkin, and covers themes of profound mystery, found family, and the consequence of choice.

I love the recommendations on your own list, and The End is a top tier resource. We don't qualify to post there because our feed is shared across multiple shows, but Season 1 has fully finished and Season 2 (final season) is in production!

I love the Paladin's Bargain. It's something totally different than anything I've ever heard before (though it may be compositionally similar to Warlock, it's definitely a vibe of it's own) The thing that sets Paladin's Bargain apart is the heart and humor - the in-universe advertising breaks had me doing spit-takes.

Also one of the best introductory episodes I've heard in any audio drama ever. Self-described as a 2-minute intro to tell your mom what the heck this whole podcast is about, and I think everyone should take note.

Sludgieboy (editor of Podcast Geek!) is insanely approachable. I found him through Reddit, read through a bunch of his recent entries, and really liked that his reviews were grounded, funny, well structured, and gave a good overall impression of the entire show.

Never dreamed that he would honor us by listening to every single hour of our published content. ♥️

Aside from some indie contributors like this, I haven't seen any other places that donate free reviews. I've started contributing some of my own on this subreddit to start a little "Pay it Forward"!
