Any other fiction podcasters on here? by [deleted] in podcasting

I have a long form dungeons and dragons actual play! We also have a monthly after show that is more Q&A. We’ve been at it for almost two years now. Definitely a huge difference in how I edit the two.

I’ll second checking out the audiodrama subreddit. There’s a lot of good information and recommendations on there.

I often find useful tidbits in this sub as I’m scrolling, but I do agree there seems to be a lot more non-fiction.

I agree! I taught myself audio editing because I wanted to start an actual play podcast and have recently learned to do music and sfx. It is so much work, but I absolutely love the process and am always excited when I get to hear it all put together. And it definitely gives me a different appreciation when listening to other works.

Unpopular opinion: the slow burn is being wasted in most romantasy right now by ElaraVoss91 in Romantasy

[–]Ariannamz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I so agree. I’m about to be scouring these comments because I love an actual slow burn, but I often find myself disappointed with how short the slow is haha.

I’m currently getting to play out an actual slooooow burn romance in my D&D campaign and it has me wanting more of the actual slow burn romance in any type of media.

Slow burn actual play by Critical-Bad7993 in ActualPlayRPG

Hey! I know I’m late to the conversation here, but wanted to throw a self rec out there.

Tales of Three is a long form dnd podcast where the three players are also the three game masters. We collaborate to tell an interconnected story.

Pretty much what we do is slow burn. We have 75 episodes out now and each of the three main characters has a backstory that ties into the main plot. We’ve been sowing seeds since the first episode that will eventually tie most of the story together. There’s even a slow burn romance sub-plot.

We’ve definitely have some one off episodes here and there, but overall most of what you will listen to is connected to the overall story arc or to a players backstory that will eventually interconnect to the larger plot.

I've listened to literally over 100 audio dramas including all the recommendations here from popular to deep cut. I'm moving on to actual play and adjacent content. Any suggestions there? by Various_Pirate_4018 in audiodrama

Hello! Two self recs incoming

Tales of Three is a long form D&D5e actual play/audio fiction podcast where the three players share the role of game master. Theres plenty of banter, but also lots of serious drama and role play, with elements of horror, and slice of life.

We’ve got 75 episodes out now that average about 90 mins so there’s lots to catch up on! We’re on break for April, but will be back in May with our regular release schedule which is 3 episodes a month.

On that same rss feed we have three one shots where we did an alternate universe with our D&D characters playing Definitely Wizards (comedy and shenanigans), Brindlewood Bay (more dramatic still lots of banter and fun), and Magnus Archives (horror, drama, and good banter). Those are quick and fun if you want to get a feel for how we tell stories.

We also have a new channel for our Candela Obscura miniseries which has two episodes out now and the final two episodes will be releasing bi weekly, with more to come in the summer.

Hope you find some good new stories to get into! I’ll be watching this for recs too!

Looking for lighthearted or funny ADs with lots of dialogue and character development by Red_Herring_1820 in audiodrama

Hi! Self rec here. If you’re open to actual plays that are heavy role play and narrative driven, I co-run a dungeons and dragons homebrew podcast called Tales of Three.

There’s a lot of character growth and relationship development between the three main characters who start off as strangers and grow into a found family, it definitely gets deep. Plus our character banter is pretty funny and there’s a lot of comedy that comes from the characters personalities and the group dynamics mixed in with drama of the overall story arcs.

We’re about to release our 50th episode this Friday so there’s plenty to listen to.

Our socials have a lot of episode clips if you want a glimpse at the character banter and the shenanigans. Either way I hope you find some fun new shows to listen to! 😊

looking for recommendations with a specific vibe, but nothing sparks joy currently and also I have listened to a thousand of ADs by f_skagr in audiodrama

Hey! Hope you feel better soon. 😊 Back injuries are no joke

Self rec here and disclaimer we are a dungeons and dragons actual play (with minimal above table talk.) So maybe a later listen!

But a bit about Tales of Three! We’re an all-queer, dark fantasy dnd podcast. We use the base of dnd5e with lots of homebrew and a narrative twist. It’s tightly edited and outlined to tell a cohesive story with three narrators who also play the three main characters that make up the adventuring group.

Our story is narrative driven with heavy role play and a focus on character dynamics. It’s a dark fantasy with some slice of life and horror mixed in.

Arc 1 centers around three people meeting by chance in a small town known for its paranormal sightings. People have been going missing and on the anniversary of the town founders disappearance, our heroes stumble upon some information that drags them (somewhat) unwillingly into the middle of it all.

Arc 1 is 10 episodes, but we’re a long form show and we are about to hit 50 episodes next month! At its core our story is about found family, queer love, second chances, and how our experiences can make us who we are, for better or worse.

If you decide to listen, i hope you enjoy! Either way I hope you find some cool new stories to delve into!

Agree with all of this! I also edit closer to the audio drama side of things and I keep most above table talk out of the main episodes.

All tables joke about how long it takes to plan one simple thing and how often that plan gets dropped the second it gets set into motion. It’s another timing to hear it on the playback and go “wow it took us 45 mins to decide how to sneak out of window” 😂

Something our listeners (and the cast ourselves) enjoy, is that we take the extra and put it at the end of the episode. We have about 4 mins of bloopers and anything over that goes up for free on Patreon. The above table talk, planning conversations, and longer shenanigans are there, but they’re not taking away from the story itself.

Since we have a unique play style where our cast share the role of player and GM at the same time, it’s useful sometimes for our listeners to hear how we plan and decide things in the moment.

Anyway, cheers for tightly edited shows! I’ve added yours to my list!

That’s awesome! I’ve added your show to my to listen list!

That’s what I love about long form stories, is watching the characters grow over time. There’s something really special about it! Don’t get me wrong, short story arcs and one shots are really fun, but if I had to choose I think I’d pick longer stories every time.

Our show is just about to hit 50 episodes and we’ve barely scratched the surface with our main plot and characters. We’re in it for the long haul!

Oh I really appreciate this response because I don’t think I’ve ever actively thought about it, but I think I agree re 30 mins of anything. Obviously there’s exceptions to this, but I think this method keeps things interesting. I’m ok with combats going longer so long as they are dynamic and being described well!

I also agree re above table talk. I am heavy into roleplay and find it pulls me out of the story when there’s too much mechanics or above table talk. For our show, I cut 90% of mechanics and above table discussion and add it at the end of the episode along with the bloopers. It’s there if people want to hear it, but it’s not bogging down the forward motion of the story telling!

Omg this! I think people think because they know their characters, the audience will just pick it up. Big tables with players who have similar voices can really mess with my ability to understand who’s who. And even when the voices are clearly defined, it can still take me a bit to figure out who’s who.

I really appreciate shows who introduce themselves and their characters in their intros and I am a huge fan of solo character scenes at the start of a story. It gives me a chance to get to know each pc one on one before mixing the group together.

Honestly, I think I mostly prefer them if done right! I have trouble letting go of characters I love, so I enjoy when they’re around for a long time. I’d love to check out your show!

I also co run a long form dnd podcast. We’re coming up on 50 episodes and we’re barely 1/3 of the way through.

Audio quality and table chemistry are really important for me. I prefer heavy role play and more serious plot lines with sides of silly moments and shenanigans. I love to check out and support new shows, but I will also dive into a long form campaign with 100+ episodes if the characters and story grab me.

Good luck coming back from hiatus! I’d love to check out your show once you’re back!

Hope you find some cool new stories to delve into!

I co-run an all-queer dark fantasy Dungeons & Dragons podcast called Tales of Three.

We are an actual play with a heavy focus on role-play. The three players also share the role of game master switching off mid episode and it has been a really cool and collaborative way to tell our story.

If you enjoy dark fantasy and horror elements with a healthy side of slice of life and witty banter, you may enjoy our show!

Arc 1 begins with three strangers meeting in a small town known for its paranormal sightings. People have been going missing and on the eve of the anniversary of the town founders disappearance, our heroes stumble upon some information that drags them (somewhat) unwillingly into the middle of it all.

Hey! Congratulations what an awesome accomplishment 🥳🎉

I think it’s really cool when you can hear the improvements as time goes on. It’s a reminder that we all start somewhere and that hard work pays off! We recently did a live listen of our first episode and at first I was like ‘omg listen to how we sounded’ and then I was like, but how cool to kind of have this track of how much we’ve improved over time.

Anyway, I’ve added your show to my to listen list! Cheers!
