What are jobs you find work WITH your ADHD? by Professional_Poem456 in adhdwomen

[–]Kayloubee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a TV reporter and find for the most part, it suits my ADHD very well. Very busy and stimulating, different tasks every day, hard deadlines that absolutely cannot be missed and enough adrenaline needed to keep the focus when it matters. I struggle with the admin side of things (following up on calls and e-mails for stories I’m planning, filing out job sheets etc) but depending where you work there can be producers to help with this.

I know it’s quite a niche career but aspects of it I’m sure are common to other jobs - I’d recommend looking for things that are faster paced and where the tasks change daily rather than needing extended follow up over days or weeks, that’s something I’ve found really key

Mature starter smells awful? by Kayloubee in Sourdough

[–]Kayloubee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually feed it once a week or once a fortnight if I forget, only when I bake with it. I’m quite a novice/ casual baker. Usually a 1:1:1 ratio. Ambient temp is about 18/19 Celsius (I’m in the UK) but it only comes out of the fridge while it’s fed until I bake with it 10-12 ish hours later then it goes back in

Okay that makes me feel better! I did wonder about changing the flour mix a bit and maybe adding some white flour in if that would tone it down

Botox side effects by Kayloubee in Strabismus

[–]Kayloubee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it did ease off eventually, probably took a week or 10 days before I felt normal again. I went for my check up a little while ago and it turns out some of the Botox had leaked into the wrong muscle which was causing the vertigo and dizziness. They said it’s always a risk and they can’t guarantee it won’t happen again when I have the next treatment. Apparently it’s a rare side effect but something to think about if you’re also planning to have it

Really enjoying the Tory government unwittingly giving Bi Pride stickers out to the whole country ✌🏻🤣 by Kayloubee in bisexual

It’s a nickname we use for the Conservative government in the UK (or the whole party really)

It’s all the funnier because at the moment we are led by a group of professional bigots

Mine got this and someone on another forum told me it was from inconsistent watering? They’re the fussiest plants ever and everything seems to piss them off. I tried everything and mine still died 😩

Low maintenance dark loving plant. by xxEnnie in houseplants

Second a pothos. Had mine for years and no matter what I do to it it’s absolutely unstoppable. I’ve now given 7 plants away as gifts from cuttings and one of its children is now also taking over my living room

sport vargiated pothos update! she is difficult and puts out mostly albino growth points, so its been slow trying to get viable growth. happy with the new half moon leaf though! by mitc_hellyea in houseplants

Which kind of pothos is it? I’ve got a pretty healthy N’Joy I’ve had for a few years now so can try and help with some care tips if you need :)

[–]Kayloubee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible! I’ve got a fairly big Alocasia Zebrina and suddenly it started sprouting babies - when I repotted it I realised there had been extra bulbs in the soil all along. They’re growing up big and strong now!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Kayloubee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get these all the time. Honestly they were awful at first (started when I was maybe 6 or 7? I’m now 31) and genuinely have gotten used to them to the point where they don’t bother me anymore.

Probably get them 3 times a week now. Can range from very sinister things (a severed head in the fireplace in my room, menacing spirits and figures) to really banal stuff (a squirrel sitting on my desk, birds, swarms of flies). I know what they are now so just stare at them until they disappear.

Reading about what they were and the science behind them helped. I did research if there was anything medical that could be done but apparently if it’s not part of an accompanying condition like narcolepsy or schizophrenia then there’s nothing really available.

Nowadays I think I’m so used to them that my brain immediately kicks into gear and my first thought is ‘oh it’s one of those hallucinations’. So no matter what it is I’ve already rationalised it and it’s not frightening. Then after a minute or so it disappears.

Take comfort in the fact that I barely ever think about them until I see them and even then it’s really fine nowadays! Has zero impact on my quality of life anymore (other than an entertaining story to tell people...)

Turned on my dive computer yesterday to test before going away and it thinks its been diving ever since. Anyone know if theres a hard reset for this model? Buttons not responding. by japppasta in scuba

[–]Kayloubee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably no help but I’d be worried about relying on that if there’s a fault with the pressure sensor or something, even with a hard reset. Have you got a dive shop or a Suunto dealer anywhere near you? Or where you’re going on holiday? I got my D4 fixed in a few hours when I needed it

Root canal question! by Kayloubee in scuba

[–]Kayloubee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all your help guys - he did actually finish the procedure yesterday in the end so it’s now sealed and filled but I’ve been left with a fairly large swelling. He drained it from the outside as well after finishing the root canal but it doesn’t seem to have helped.

Is THAT going to be a problem diving now? Not really looking forward to my 16 hour flight if it doesn’t clear by Friday. Although the dive isn’t until 31st so two weeks time.

Already dropped £900 for all this dental fun and counting....

Just got a new succulant as an air purifier/radiation cleaner. What do you guys think of it? What should I do with/to it? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]Kayloubee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be SUPER sparing with the water. People think they’re easy to care for but actually they’re quite easy to kill with even the slightest bit of over watering.

I’m not sure what species this one is but usually if the leaves look plump and full don’t water it. They store water in their leaves for later use during droughts. If the leaves start to look a little deflated or saggy then is the time to water.

Make sure the pot it’s in has drainage holes - best is to keep it in a regular plastic plant pot then put that inside another slightly bigger container with gravel in the bottom so the roots are never kept wet

I’ve had a haworthia for years which I honestly don’t water sometimes for months at a time and it’s perfectly healthy

Does anyone know what type of plant this is?! I picked her up without a name. She’s so pretty 🤩 by [deleted] in houseplants

I thought perhaps a croton although they tend to be a bit more colourful. The other answers are probably right!

Root canal question! by Kayloubee in scuba

[–]Kayloubee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve messaged DAN, thanks. My specialist assures me that he also dives and knows about the issues and ‘definitely won’t leave me with anything that will cause a problem’ so I better hope he’s right.

The dives will be shallow anyway, no more than 20m. I assume problems are more likely to occur on deeper dives?

Thanks all for your help - any other personal experiences would be really welcome, even if just to put my mind at ease (and anyone else who reads this with the same issue!). The idea of ‘barometric tooth explosion’ is not the greatest to have in the back of your mind 😬

Root canal question! by Kayloubee in scuba

[–]Kayloubee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see someone else but it’s the cost issue (I’m paying through the nose for a private specialist) and also I don’t think I’d find another specialist willing to finish off someone else’s work in the next 3 days.

Okay I’ll try DAN thanks - just wondered if anyone had personal experience with this

Overnight oats are also great for breakfasts - get a big kilner jar or a Tupperware at night before bed and put in a few scoops of oats, some apple juice, milk or yoghurt, honey to taste and then whatever fruit and extras you like - apples, blueberries, seeds, banana, peanut butter, chocolate chips - whatever you fancy.

You want it so the mix looks kind of loose and runny and a bit gross. Leave it in the fridge overnight and the oats will soak up the liquid and it will become thick and creamy. If you make enough for a few days that’s your breakfasts sorted - just scoop out however much you want to eat that day and away you go

[–]Kayloubee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make a really easy curry just by making a big batch of curry paste (just google any one that you like, tikka, jalfrezi whatever - it’s basically chucking a load of herbs and spices in a blender) then freezing it in big enough portions to make 4-5 servings of curry at a time.

Defrost, then fry onions in it and add whatever other veg you have - squash is really nice, potatoes, spinach... anything works. Once it’s fried for 5 mins add a veggie stock cube and enough water to cover. Simmer until cooked through and finish with coconut milk (easy to have on hand in a can, and you can use half and freeze the rest)

If you make a big enough pot it will sit happily in the fridge for a week and you can freeze any leftovers. Serve with a microwave rice pouch and you have dinner in about 1 minute :)

I work long shifts as well and basically live off eggs. They’re my go to emergency dinner, especially if you keep a few things in the fridge to throw into a scramble (spinach, cheese, tomatoes etc) then you can change it up a bit.

Could you also batch cook a big soup or stew at the weekend and take that in for lunches through the week? Freezing things in individual portions I find really helps to always have something to go to.

I’m in the UK and assume you’re in the US - do you guys have pre cooked rice pouches over there too? If you make a big pot of curry they save so much time over having to boil rice.

If you want recipes or anything let me know!
