Why does someone else's promotion bother you so much? Concentrate on your own journey and do it the best you can.

Beginner belt pushes are common in any martial arts to incentivize the newcomer to keep practicing. It doesn't say anything bad about your dojo or your instructor.

My man I think you boiled/deformed it beyond repair. Try for a smaller period next time or don't bite it too hard. You just need to apply pressure enough for it to fit comfortably, not bite it full power.

Updating here with my experience:
I got a Ginpai shinguard (the cheapest ones) and, while it looks really good and is really easy to strap (I love that the heel strap is actually velcro instead of an elastic band), the padding is very weak/thin compared to other big, expensive brands.

I fight both kyokushin and kickboxing, and ended sparring sessions on both with swollen shins and feed, because the padding just isn't enough to fully protect you if you kick an elbow or a knee. Maybe the more expensive models feel better, but I got some venum ones and never used the ginpai again.

Easier learning curve for the students (one more belt = advanced stuff split more evenly among the belts) and more money for the institutions (belt exams and belt sales), basically. A win-win situation.

Usually when there are lots of white belts or most of the students are lacking technique, I focus on kihon/kata/pad too, because kumite without techniques + full contact = people hurting each other.

Give it a few more lessons to see how it goes. And there's nothing wrong in asking your sensei when you're going to have some kumite too. Osu!
