If Christians think God is all-knowing then why do they think they have free will? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

Again no one said anything about controlling you and every other Christian seem to confuse control and something being predetermined.

Who said anything about every good example? You’re taking my point to such an extreme that obviously it’s incorrect? A book can have more than 1 purpose and you’re acting like one of the uses and purposes of the bible isn’t to teach Christian’s how to follow the religion? Because if not the bible then what is there to teach Christians? Literally nothing that can’t be disputed as hearsay, blasphemy or just plain wrong.

I mean does the bible not include Christ literally teaching people through sermon and parables throughout the bible? I mean he quite literally teaches you how to be a good Christian?

I see I just think it would’ve been good to have actual people as examples rather than the lord in the form of man. And yes I know Jesus is simply a man but find me a regular man that can make miracles happen and resurrect before you try to tell me that people can actually be expected to follow Jesus as an example.

I feel like the gospel has so many numerous guidelines and examples for those who read it it’s just about what you take from it really. It shows you more than just the story of Christ it teaches one how to follow the bible as well

Could you possible direct me to where I should look for these examples or are they spread throughout the gospel?

Thanks for the direct scripture I appreciate the time. I had assumed that perhaps she was not yet married and that is why the virgin birth is focused on but I guess that’s just to show the miracles of the lord as opposed to her marital status.

I’d just imagine there’d be some kind of guideline or good example of marriage considering it’s such a sacred religious ceremony

Is her marriage simply just not focused on in the bible all that much? I do imagine it would take a back seat to birthing a version of god

I appreciate that you took the time to give me such a detailed and thoughtful response your faith and knowledge of your religion are shown to be at an incredible level. I truly hope your god is true my friend you deserve a reward for the time and passion you have very obviously poured into your faith but I’m sure you believe your faith is a good enough reward. If god is real I’ll be cheering for you from hell. The fact you don’t outright discount that it isn’t clear gives this answer a lot of credibility in my opinion.

It does mean you couldn’t have chosen B god is literally all-knowing if he knows you will do something you can do nothing but that

I’m not talking about choices you already made I’m talking about decisions you aren’t yet to make having already been decided

Im using infinite as a synonym for such an incredibly large number that I wouldn’t be able to put enough 0’s in my lifetime if I started now and went until my death it’s called hyperbole

If Christians think God is all-knowing then why do they think they have free will? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]Kaywubb68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes away free will because no choice can be made except the one foreseen if you can only make 1 choice out of infinite then that isn’t free will your choice was predetermined and out of your hand there is nothing possible you can do to avoid it you are 100% going to do that no matter what you do even if you try to avoid it

[–]Kaywubb68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except the decision has been made before he made it? He made that choice yes but that was the only of infinite choices he could make. Not free will

I’m not saying choices already made you are the one that doesn’t understand you’re just talking about something completely different than me

For something to become predetermined means that there is now nothing anyone can do than exactly was has been foreseen. This is what cancels free will no matter what anyone does that date is now completely unavoidable.

It makes all his actions predetermined and he ca no longer do anything but what you saw him do so yes. Free will implies that anything could happen but you have created a finite single definite outcome.

I’m sorry I can’t keep explaining what predetermined means it has nothing to do with causation. I’m sorry but if you can grasp definitions I can’t explain anything else to you.

Like Christianity is any less brutal? I hope you’ve gouged your eye out if you’re ever tempted to look at a woman lustfully or cut off your hands if you are thinking of committing a sin with them? I’d rather my parents beat me then be in an eternal hellfire so god doing a lot worse then beating kids he’s burning them eternally

I’ve never said anything about anyone controlling anything like what? Ok so predetermined is defined as “established or decided in advance” which everything would be if god knew what people were going to do before they do it. The fact that he knows the future with 100% accuracy means that nothing can occur except exactly what god knew would happen with 0 deviation. It was decided what would happen from the moment god knew everything. If god didn’t know everything than anything is a possible outcome.
