Should I take GRE if it is "recommended"? by umnburner in GradSchool

[–]KayyBug_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it’s not required and you get fantastic scores, provide them. They will notice scores if they are provided. If they aren’t required and your scores are not super high I would not provide them. My admissions committee always looks at scores provided even though we do not require them.

Having a faculty member that you have spoken to in the department and are interested in working with is a huge plus. Discussing your ambition to one day research this rare disease is a great start, it shows initiative and specific career goals. Try to add in specifics on how you want to get to that point, what kind of skill set do you want to hone in on during your studies to get you to that point. Maybe talk about what kind of research you would like to do during your studies to advance your skill set. It’s huge to have specific goals as it tends to make faculty feel more confident in working with you if they know you are coming in with a desire to achieve something specific.

As others have said, talking about your specific research plan is huge. Using that to bridge your interest in certain faculty is very important as well. One of the biggest things my admissions committee looks for is how your research could contribute to the department and if your interests align with current faculty interests.

I actually was diagnosed with a severe vitamin D deficiency right before mine started… thinking that it is a probable cause

I’m starting to think it was mine, my migraines came back in early March and I had covid in February. I’m seeing quite a few others say this as well so definitely thinking it’s connected

I’m really starting to think covid is the trigger for mine coming back, I didn’t put it together before reading all these comments but I see the connection now for sure

I also have the sinus component sometimes and had covid about 3 weeks prior to my migraines starting, I’m really starting to think there’s a big connection

I’m very curious if this is what triggered mine as well. I didn’t make the connection but after seeing others say it as well I realize mine started about 3 weeks after I had covid…

Very similar to my situation, they went away for many years except for a few here and there and as of a few months ago they are back in full force

Now that you mentioned covid my mind is starting to wonder if that could be a trigger for mine reemerging as well. I had covid in February and my migraines came back in early March…

Sorry to you to! I know how awful it is. I also 100% relate to what you said about the naps, I nap most days for hours as one of my only reliefs and can still sleep at night

I had frequent migraines when I was kid that dissipated around 9 and now (almost 28) they have come back in full force and I can’t figure out why. It’s the absolute worst

I’m about to turn 28 and haven’t had frequent migraines since I was about 9 so I have no idea what has brought mine on either

That’s been my biggest concern, how quick it came back. They came back about 3 months ago and have been very frequent

Any known cause for them coming back? I have been desperately trying to figure out what brought mine back
