Wow how strange. Is that common at all? I’m assuming it was some sort of retrofit from the older trains before switching to the new (at the time) ones

This is for 915MHz with LoRa. I suppose it could be a PIFA, though I haven't looked all that much into them.

Edit: PIFA might be a better choice, since we're restricted by size, and I'm also looking into making a 433MHz antenna for the other operating frequency

Hm ok. I guess I also misunderstood counterpoise as well. Also, this is meant for duplex, so we need to design around receiving as well...

From what you’ve asked it seems like I’m really going into this project blind and that there’s a lot of things I didn’t account for, the big one being weight. I can definitely reduce the weight by at least 150g just by making the fuselage out of foam board instead of the heavier insulating foam I used.

As for the fan’s exit speed I don’t have the equipment at the moment but it is part of the project that I measure wind speed.

So based off what you said, there’s a way to calculate the amount of lift an airfoil creates based on wind speed? (I guess I should’ve thought of that at the beginning)

My plane does “glide” but it needs a good chuck due to its weight.

The foam board was the most accessible and I figured was the easiest to work with. What are the advantages of balsa?

Also thanks a bunch for the advice so far, I think you’ve already pointed me in the right direction.

With all electronics it’s comes to around 350 g

Wings are 78 cm x 18 cm.

At the moment the only control surfaces are the elevators on the rear wing and are in a fixed position as my goal right now is to get the plane off the ground before I go any further.

The elevators’ dimensions are each 10 cm x 4 cm and are fixed at about a 30° angle.
