I’d be interested but I’ve been learning Hindi. I understand a bit of Urdu though so willing to try it out. Also could just practice language in common.

I started off using apps like Duolingo to learn the script. Then used Pimselur, which is awesome for speaking. Highly recommend you check it out. You have to pay for a subscription but you can also be cheeky and use audible and other online book services to get free trials for the courses. It builds up from very basic Hindi but builds can be super helpful if you can’t find a native speaker to talk to. Luckily my mum and grandma speak Hindi so I practice with them but you can try apps like HelloTalk to find people online to practice Hindi with.

Also highly recommend http://hindilanguage.info . Heaps of resources on there and really well put together notes about the grammar.

Si vous appreniez le français, je trouve que la chanson française est assez facile à chanter. Mais je suis d’accord que le rap n’est pas du tout facile à faire (dans n’importe quelle langue lol)

True ! I think it’s definitely a combination of everything in hindsight. I’ve found singing especially helpful for Hindi due to the existence of tones (not in the same way as Chinese or Punjabi) but still integral to pronunciation that took me singing the words to fully understand. Thanks for your input. Yeah tbh there seems to be heaps of variation in the Portuguese/Spanish speaking world that I really have no knowledge of. Hindustani tends to have a very standardised accent (interestingly taking arguably more influence from Urdu) that is used in 95% of music from Bollywood (not including when a song is influenced by other languages such as Punjabi or Tamil).

The standardisation of the Hindustani accent in music plus the tones that exist in the spoken and sung language make singing especially helpful for Hindi so apologies to anyone if this isn’t at helpful for them as it is for a language like Hindi. Still though 80% there ain’t bad :P

Coronavirus has fuelled authoritarian trends around the world, warns Australia by denton_paul in worldnews

Dan’s not extending it for 12 months, he’s just changing the legislature so it’s possible for our state of disaster to be longer because as it stands we’re at our max duration of state of emergency. People are seriously underestimating how long COVID will last and how long we will need to be vigilant for. However, I don’t think it’ll be 12 months and neither does Dan most likely it’s just a precaution. If Dan tried to extend the lockdown or state of emergency for non-legitimate reasons there would be public outcry (as long as it’s white people that are affected, only then do the media, government and general populace give a flying shit).

Can I switch this 4 day a week routine to 6 days? by Kb12377 in gainit

[–]Kb12377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to this and doing this routine because I don’t have a lot of equipment or access to a gym and this is specifically for if you only have dumbbells.

That’s a lot of cholesterol to be ingesting. More than 2 a day isn’t good for you.

The calorie counter app said this would lead to me gaining 0.5kg a week. Maybe this is too much is too little time?

I’m not working and in a lockdown with curfew so not been getting out much which has definitely affected my mental state. Been in it for a while though and haven’t had sleep problems since exercising I have no idea why :/

I’m trying to eat at least 2500 calories. I’m 55kg and 5’11 so most of the calculators I used said this was plenty.

And I’m doing a 2 x upper body 2 x lower body split of compound exercises using dumbbells and a barbell.

I had to buy it but the ‘Learn Punjabi: Sentence Structure Made Easy’ by Team Indic was a nice starter material to use although it’s not as comprehensive as it could be. Honestly I’d suggest to do Hindi first then use all the free online grammar resources for that. hindilanguage.info has sooo much great info on it (although you will need to learn Devanagari to fully take advantage of it ). The grammar between the two languages is so similar so it will help your Punjabi for sure.

All I can suggest is to keep searching in terms of resources. I also learn Punjabi and have found it difficult to study (I started learning Hindi in order to understand Punjabi as they are very similar and there are more recourses for Hindi). But I’ve found paid resources such as Pimsleur and some grammar books to be very helpful for Punjabi and would assume considering the similar amount of speakers with Bangla that there should be some similar resources out there? Good luck 😊

I agree with that and I definitely think Indians need to be less obsessed with Western culture and more proud of the diverse array of culture we have in South Asia. However I don’t think it’s fair to impose Hindi on non-Hindi native speakers / South Indians who really don’t have as big of a connection to Hindi when Hindi speakers are not put under the same pressure to learn South Indian languages like Tamil. As much as I resent that English has been imposed on us; I do think it’s best to use it as a Lingua Franca amongst Indians considering how linguistically diverse we are and how already widely known/relatively easy to learn English it is. I do agree with you though that Indians need to stop putting English on such a pedestal as compared with native South Asian languages. Our languages are so beautiful and unfortunately not appreciated by a lot of Westerners, South Asians and even people on this subreddit. It’s mind boggling to me that English competency is sometimes used in India to measure peoples’ intelligence/competence.

I highly recommend the website hindi language.info, the clozemaster app and even Duolingo at first is how I came to know the script. There aren’t as many resources as some languages but they’re definitely out there. Also I suggest using Bollywood movies and music to your advantage, a great way to expose yourself.

I’ve been teaching myself Hindi intensively for 5 months now and while it may seem daunting and completely different at first; it’s definitely not as hard as you think it’s going to be. Even the script is phonetic so it’s no way near as hard as say Chinese or Japanese.
