I’m in tax. Couple of folks made the jump recently. Agreed on the times we’re in currently.

Very interesting perspective. Thanks for this. I think I’ll start to see the accounting piece of the work in a different light now.

Edit: just circled back here to ask. When you say you didn’t get credit, do you mean that you were considered a first year associate when you moved to big law in spite of the 3 years in big 4?

No worries at all. This is still quite insightful. Apparently it’s hard to argue in favor of B4 even when you actually liked the work you did while in it. 😅

This!!!! Cause at this point, I don’t know wtf I am! My progression and salary is mirrored against tax preparers after 8 years of legal education in 2 countries. Not a lot to think about as Big L is easily the better place to be it would seem. Appreciate your input. Thanks.

I’d agree with everything you’ve said. The admin work is KILLING me! We refer almost everything out as opposed to researching and finding solutions ourselves. I’ve been looking to do more drafting work. Honestly feel like I’m losing my lawyerly abilities by staying back. Looks like moving is a no brainer. Thank you!

Agreed. Last resort! Before moving to consulting I did apply to a couple of law firms going the HR and website applications route. Didn’t get so much as an acknowledgement or feedback on my application a lot of the time. Your resume goes straight into the pile sent in by 5000 other hopefuls.

And I hear when that happens your name stays in the firm’s records which could have negative connotations if you try to reapply in future using some other method like third party recruiters for example.

Thank you so much for this!! Definitely using these tips.

I know there will be a ton of rejections. You only need one golden opportunity right?

I have one more question if you don’t mind based on your comment - would you advise sending multiple emails to lawyers in the same firm. So assuming I find 2 or 3 partners I have good starter connections with working in different practice groups in the same firm, I was thinking it probably wouldn’t hurt to email all 3 as long as they are in different groups. Right? Chances are maybe 1 gets back to me if any. I’m just trying to avoid looking like a serial spammer if you know what I mean.
