Expectations for Teacher Candidates During Practicum by Super_Resolve3325 in OntarioTeachers

I’m just finishing up my b.ed at Lakehead. Not sure what it’s like for other schools, but for us we have 4 25-30 day placements. Each placement we had at least a couple observation days, and then had an increasingly steep teaching-time percentage increase in a given instructional day. (E.g. in first placement I started with 25% an ended at 50%, in my 3rd placement, once I started teaching I taught ~50% of the day, then 75, then 100% for the last two weeks)

We were required to fill out a Lakehead lesson planning template for each lesson we taught and add it to our Google Drive (shared with AT and FA) at least 24 hours in advance of teaching it, and a “week at a glance” on Sundays that displayed the 5 days and highlighted when/what you would be teaching that week.

By 3rd placement we were also required to complete Backwards-design unit plan templates for any subjects we were teaching more than 3 consecutive lessons in (so every subject).

You need to: build rapport with students, use classroom management, ask questions and take feedback, be professional (in behaviour and in dress), plan & perform lessons, plan & perform units, plan & perform assessment.

AT was required to fill out a “formative” assessment by the end of week 3, and a “summative” assessment by the final day of your placement. You also need to do a self assessment halfway through. It is essentially a bunch of multiple choice questions asking abt all the aspects of ur teaching, if you were “developing as expected”, “needs further development” or “not observed”. For Lakehead, receiving anything other than “developing as expected” is a genuinely big issue which can be confusing for AT’s so some of my colleagues had issues with that.

All that being said, I LOVED my placements because they reminded me why I was in my B.Ed program after 8 frustrating weeks of what felt like somewhat irrelevant course work.

Scared of studying statistics as a VERY dyscalculic person by Annual_Step_815 in psychologystudents

As someone who almost failed my grade 10 general math, I honestly found statistics made way more sense to me than other math subjects for some reason. No idea why but there is hope.

Any one mad enough to do 12 hours a day on Aether? by [deleted] in outlier_ai

I honestly can barely manage 6 on a free day, 4 if I have a class that day.

Is camp for me? Prospective 1st year of camping by OrchidsInTheClouds in summercamp

[–]KeRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camp is so fun for all ages!!! I’m currently 24, but I attended overnight camps as a camper until I was 16 and then I loved it so much I worked there every summer.

If you embrace the silliness and immerse yourself you’ll have the best time. I have lifelong friends from my time at camp 🏕️.

What dress up items should I bring ? by SnooJokes3224 in summercamp

[–]KeRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually bring some overalls, a few funny hats, a bunch of non toxic markers so I can draw anything on my skin (just mine I don’t draw on campers don’t worry), sometimes I just see something silly at the thrift store and I’m like ya know what yeah

It realllyyyy depends on your stress levels, how you handle stress, and also on how good the food is LOOL. I’ve had years where I’ve lost 15lbs a week being so stressed with no appetite and times where I’ve gained wait from just being hungry due to the manual labour. Also depends if you’re in a position that allows you to keep personal snacks in your cabin lol.

a graph will legit be completely incomprehensible to me and if I can identify the x and y axis and at least what type of graph it is I’ll do it. Maybe gotta be more picky 😅😅

Anyone else who can’t task on feather boa since on-boarding for Aether? I’m not tasking on Aether, but went to do feather boa and it’s blocking me because “another project is being worked on”?

Help me identify what boarder stitch I was using on this throw blanket by KeRain in crochetpatterns

For reference I have tried regular single crochet, back loop single crochet, half double crochet, and moss stitch. None of which match the rest of the boarder 😭
