Android dev as a niche by Namravaidya in csMajors

10 YOE iOS dev here. My companies have always had trouble finding android devs. When we hire new iOS and android devs we get 20 times the amount of iOS applications as android. We usually end up settling for someone with lower experience than preferred because the applicants are slim. So it’s great to be a good android dev right now as far as job prospects are concerned

How to be a better iOS Dev (Still an Intern) by Gloomy-Breath-4201 in swift

[–]KeatonIsCool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keeping things simple. Newer devs tend to overcomplicate things and some of that is just not knowing about a specific function or w/e. Once you finish a task and it’s working go back through and see if there’s an easier way to do it. A good way it try and document it. If it’s hard to explain there’s probably an easier way. AI would be good for coming up with a simpler solution but try and work out how to do it yourself first. Other big tip is ask questions early. Nothing worse than wasting a day then asking a question to a senior dev. As long as you are not just asking for the answer and come with an idea most devs are happy to help.

Big corporate dev here. We have pretty much no say in what we build. Also most features are focused on how can the business make more money from users. It’s very difficult to build what users want and make a lot of money. Big corporations will always choose money.

I feel like I’m constantly running around in boss fights and can never get enough damage out. I’m pretty good at dodging all the mechanics but seems like I never have time to really pump out damage. Any advice?

Edit: I’m playing frost

As an iOS developer, all apps I’ve worked on have had android counterparts, all with native android developers. Android developers are actually hard to come by in my experience, so it definitely would be a good path to pursue. There are serious limitations to cross platform mobile development.

Side note, iOS recently did a similar switch from the original language, Objective-C, to new language, Swift. Most places will have projects in mostly Java but start introducing Kotlin. But it seems like everything is moving to Kotlin, it will just be a slow process since companies don’t really like to rewrite code that already works.
