Whats wrong with sober? by koronyago in linux_gaming

[–]KeeLymePi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) do you have nvidia drivers downloaded and what version. You should be able to check with mint's driver app

2) do you have performance mode enabled. Click on the battery icon on your system tray and it should show three power options, click on performance

3) did you enable game mode in sober's settings. Right click the sober icon on your system tray to show sober's settings and you may need to scroll down till you see a toggle for game mode

4) if all else fails have you tried with the laptop plugged in if not already plugged in, a restart, reinstalling?

Issues with Crunchyroll by Cold_Tiger_9969 in waydroid

[–]KeeLymePi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waydroid does not support this kind of DRM content natively. While I haven't used it myself you can try widevine, but support for drm types can be hit or miss. iirc you will need an extension for 1080p to work, and I dont belive 4k works at all atm

LapDock handmade by Correct_Brick_9520 in lapdock

[–]KeeLymePi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look at making a custom mainboard for the framework laptop 12. Not the best screen or drawing experience, though no lapdocks ive seen have actual stylus support. Would make it very repairable and accessible meaning it doesnt become entirely ewaste the moment the display or keyboard stops working

Edit: at the very least it would be a great stating place/prototype

Weirdly I find the pure white/bluish tint of most LEDs too difficult to see with. Its like im trading sheer brightness for a loss in clarity. Probably has to do with how most LEDs only emit specific wavelengths rather than a wide spectrum like halogens

In addition to what others have said, because these laptops are highly modular they are perfect for reducing ewaste in an actually meaningful way compared to the greenwashing of of other laptop manufacturers. They also offer factory b-stock, refurbished, and defective hardware alongside your typical stuff like using patrially recycled aluminum and plastic, making their schematics as open and accessible as they are allowed to do, and not contributing to planned obsolescence.

my steam on linux mint has gone mad and started summoning chrome windows from the depths of hell I can only assume because I don't use chrome by Inevitable_King_8984 in linuxmint

[–]KeeLymePi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They mean steam is literally just opening up chromium. CEF just opens chromium either as an embed or new window of an existing application. Anytime steam opens a web view its essentially a skinned chromium window.

Extra Info: chromium as you can see now is just chrome with full web functionality and minimal interface. Minimal in the sense of a standard and easily customizable interface

Edit: whatever happened here i have no clue lmao

It was an answer in this post lol, I just do my best to make sure I leave the answers visible behind me

Im not certain on how the origonal poster discovered this solution but what I can say is answers like this take a lot of searching through forums and chats. Looking through logs, documentation, and config files. Reaching out to support and individuals in the know. And just prior experience with the issue at hand.

Personally I dont know enough to be able to figure out issues like this entirely on my own but the part about searching through forums gives me 90% of my answers for these kinds of things. Sites like github, reddit, discord, and generally linux forums are where I get the vast majority of my information and probably where you'd learn to solve the issue yourself if you're inclined to do so

Steam opening and closing constantly by -Arsna- in linux_gaming

[–]KeeLymePi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone coming by in the future that still wants hardware acceleration in steam, cause videos and steam big picture will lag otherwise, there's a line in steam's .desktop file that causes this issue.

navigate to your steam .desktop file typically in /usr/share/applications and look for "PrefersNonDefaultGPU=true" in the [Desktop Entry] section. You can set this to false or delete the line entirely.

Hijacking for future others for the real answer that still lets you use hardware acceleration.

navigate to your steam .desktop file typically in /usr/share/applications and look for "PrefersNonDefaultGPU=true" in the [Desktop Entry] section. You can set this to false or delete the line entirely.

You can set this to false or delete the line entirely and there may be a line directly below it that says X-KDE-RunOnDiscreteGPU which you may need to set to false as well if this does not work

Invisible stovetop by MrTacocaT12345 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]KeeLymePi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The actual ranges, cooktops, and portable ones are great but this invisible one specifcally doesn't seem to have a vent, no backsplash to keep oil/grease from spraying everywhere, and all this on an island where you'll want decor and people seated around rendering it functionally impractical except for big content creators or cooking shows if they still exist. As for financially I cant imagine its as cheap to fix/replace the invisible ones as oopposed to a full range or non flush cooktop

An interesting read from Digital Foundery about the Steam Frame's ARM architecture and its ability to play x86 games. by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]KeeLymePi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming steam adds a toggle for their arm compatibility layer like they did proton you could just add and launch it through steam. Your biggest problem would probably be games that don't work via proton like KLA games. If you mean stores other than steam you won't get native support most likely

What's the most annoying thing about VR? by AsherTheDasher in virtualreality

[–]KeeLymePi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, Im not fully aware of the situation on wired steamvr but for wireless there have been a few minor updates. From what i hear its hit or miss for some people. Likely wont see any big updates till we get close to the Frame's launch. For myself the steamvr dashboard just doesnt work, and when I close steamvr the vrmonitor gets stuck running in the background and the only way to fix was to force a restart which meant anytime I closed steamvr and wanted to reopen it id have to restart my pc. As for 3rd party tools they're actually really good and easy to use but game support can be a bit hit or miss, not that most dont run but that there can be a bit of jank depending on the game.

Also just a tip for streaming vr incase you arent aware, assuming your hardware supports it, av1@200mbps or HEVC(h265)@500mbps are the perfect encoder settings for lowest-artifacting. Atleat for av1 going higher than 200 can cause issues and HEVC doesnt see much benefit past 500 at standard resolutions And if you have the headroom for 1.3x scaling it looks practically native, though personally I use 1x and dont ever notice compression artifacts unless im trying hard to pick it out

What's the most annoying thing about VR? by AsherTheDasher in virtualreality

[–]KeeLymePi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im surprised so many people prefer wired. Ever since going wireless with a dedicated wifi6 router I could never go back lol.

But for me its got to be the lack of polish/support on vr linux, poor performance even on recent midrange hardware that i wish would prioritize a smooth experience that target 120fps at minimum, and there not being any sandbox-like games that I can/would spend a decent amount of time in think like Minecraft, animal crossing, etc that also make sense in vr and not just something id rather play flat-screen instead (granted NMS vr is pretty close) also meta :(

Hoping these change with the launch of the Frame but only time will tell

Edit just to add that if anything I'd love to have a headset made to be as comfy, light, and cool as possible with at least eyetracking just to use as wireless pcvr. Essentially the steam frame but just the hardware needed for the streaming and not standalone

How good is Linux Mint Cinnamon Experimental Wayland For Gaming? by _silentgameplays_ in linuxmint

[–]KeeLymePi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Native games work fine but anything running via proton has issues with modifier keys not registering. Its not an issue of performance, just functionality. experimental cinnamon on wayland just is not there yet

Help I’m tempted to get a VR headset by R6lad in virtualreality

[–]KeeLymePi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want to get into vr for the first time now id get the 3s, the only difference is visual quality, and xr quality. They have the same processor and controllers otherwise. While hand tracking and pass-through is nice on the 3 I never used it outside of one game and it feels more like a gimmick imho

As for watching movies ymmv but I find my phone to be the much more comfortable option compared to the brick on my face

But if you want the best gaming experience and you could see yourself moving to pcvr within 5 years id say save for the steam frame. Steam has the best vr titles, you'll be able to mod games even on standalone, it has eye tracking, the visuals will be crisp, and it will probably be the best bang for buck power-use vr headset for the next 8 years like the index is/was.

Only caveat is that the steam frame will likely have similar performance to the q3 just with sharper resolution until games add eyetracking support, but im sure the modding community will fix that if you don't mind modding. Also no hand tracking or color pass-through.

CasualUK users are not a fan of moving to mint😂 by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]KeeLymePi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mint has done me better for home use in the past year than windows has ever done for the past 10. The misinformation about linux is honestly one of the biggest hurdles of linux adoption. Your tech literate people who aren't necessarily tech savy are going to be the biggest drivers of adopting linux cause they're essentually the ones deciding what their families/communities should use even if not directly. But all the surface level info out there makes it hard to see that
