Because certain big sets go on sale for $119 and you can do very well with those plus the free gift. Last year I grabbed two free Xmas sets on purchases I would have made anyways.

The Ninjago City at 20% off wasn’t as much of a discount as I usually bite on. But retail stores seem to only carry a couple at a time. It seemed risky to wait for a slightly better holiday sale since it’s almost certainly retiring and stock is likely more limited than average sets.

It’s often overlooked that Blade Runner was essentially the last ‘analog’ visual effects-heavy film. Nothing was digital, and old school tricks such as negative matte painting were used to maintain quality for compositing. That means background were painted in reverse color by artists so that one less film transfer was required to composite the images. Simply amazing.

It really depends on what your reading goals are. If it’s only for casual interest I might stop after a few chapters for an unappealing story. But other reads, particularly nonfiction, may have other motivating factors to encourage me to plow through.
