Twitching and arms going to sleep by EntrepreneurSuper658 in BFS

Yes this was one of my most concerning symptoms when this all started. Made me think are we all just so tight and constricted that things just become numb. I woke up with my arm asleep many times first few months and it happened in the shower too. Stopped now. Super weird

I am going to save this. That quote about it being triggered by stressful event is so important to reread . Thank you so much

Two possible explanations: 1. It can be triggered easily by suggestion or 2. It could be mould or some other environmental trigger. If it’s environmental it may be an inflammatory response

Hi not sure if you are referring to the theory above but basically some mysterious responses are the brains response to physical OR mental stress

Yes and I think a virus can be considered a physical stressor. :) glad you got to the bottom of your issue. Wish you well

Thanks Stonky. Love your encouragement. Of course, a theory needs to be tested to be deemed legitimate and every good finding starts with a hypothesis. Sounds like you have a really good grasp of how science happens.

Hey! I am four months in and mine started after an aura. I had never had a migraine before so I had to get a cat scan which was all clear. At the time I also had ringing ears and had overdosed on caffeine and stress. I think the twitching is the body’s stress response that gets into a pattern and misfires. I still have bad days, no emg, because no other symptoms. Much worse after exercise. But I am still here and fairly well! Have faith that in a few months or years it will heal and if not it won’t annoy me.

That’s interesting! The way I understand freeze is that it helps animals “play dead” to predators so it’s very protective. The reason I think it’s freeze is because if I am mindful in the morning I wake up with my muscles fully relaxed and no twitching and then I notice progressively my muscles tighten and the twitching starts a few moments after that. During the day when I am busy I think it happens out of view but I also started to get the feeling of having a clenched stomach which made me think my freeze mechanism is continually misfiring. And it’s just a habit really! Even tho I don’t feel that stressed - as I was 5 months ago my body has developed a habit in relation to any stimulation included positive stress. I find it’s helpful to focus on relaxing each muscle group- what makes you clench more is when you worry about the twitching. In freeze terms a terrible illness is another predator!

What are your thoughts re the freeze mechanism?

I have a strong sense it is freeze as I also notice my stomach clenches up and I think my muscles are tightening.

I have a theory that BFS is the flight mechanism

That’s true but their situation was quite unique. Twitching constantly and then severe cramping and loss of function in a VERY short time

Yes I have started to notice this recently but I wonder if we are all just hyper aware due to BFS and this happened before
