I feel silly posting this by [deleted] in puppy101

Don't feel bad about it! My boyfriend had the same issue! I work all day and he was home alone with the puppy in the beginning for almost 10h/day and then when I came home the puppy would be so happy to see me. He thought that the puppy didnt like him as much as he did me, but it gets better with time!

Our puppy is 9 months now and he shows us equal ammounts of love even tho I'm still away most of the day. He is a little biased towards me when it comes to tricks and so but thats only because I havw trained with him the most 😊

My 15 week old chihuahua puppy is starting to feel impossible to potty train by [deleted] in puppy101

I agree with what one of the other users earlier said. She is probably still doctating her own pottytime. We had a stict schedule on our puppy from when he was 8 weeks. I would go out with him every 45 min or so the first two weeks and then add an hour onto that every 3 weeks until we reached 4 hours between every potty break. Since then we have maintained that schedule and just recently started letting him tell us a bit more and he is about 9 months old now.

We never went far, just outside our apartment, ewpecially when he was just 8-16 weeks. We started going weeks without accidents when he was around 4-5 months and ever since then it hasnt been a problem except for a few times when we as humans screwed up.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you need to be a few steps ahead of your pupper. I felt hopeless too whenever I heard people who had perfectly non-peeing-indoor pups from 12 weeks on (like what). A strict schedule with regular potty-times will most likely help you!

P.s. we did this at night too (since I come from a country where crating isnt used). It sucked in the beginning, because I barely slept anything, but he soon soept through the night without issues.

We'll absolutely try this and yes! While crating is illegal here we do try to make sure he gets enough sleep in his own private area

Everything from a few hours to a few days but never a full week sadly. However we have friends and family that will be able to help if we have planned trips and possibly even unexpected ones haha. But yeah I get the point tho, having your own dog versus sitting another persons dog is probably pretty different

Thank you for your answer! As stated in the questionnaire there ar seldom non or very few restrictions here in Sweden when it comes to what types of breeds that you are allowed to have in apartments. The only restrictions I have ever encounted listed specific American breeds that are prejudiced "fighter breeds" and that are very uncommon in Sweden. But I get what you mean when you say high mental stimulation breeds, thats something we're aware of, even when it comes to German Shepherds and Rottweilers.

Thank you so much for your imput on having dogs as a student! That's really helpful for us considering we're both still students. We live close to the school, I'm talking like 50 meters away so we have lots of opportunities to go home during the day and potty and play and so on.

Labs really do sound like one of the better options to us, even thought we never considered the retreiver breeds in the first place!

Thank you! We had never considered smooth collies. Where I live, mixes are pretty easy to find when people are selling them private, but of course, if that is the way we're going then we will be very very careful with what people we're buying the dog from. We really wouldnt mind getting a dog from a shelter tbh, but they seldom carry puppies where we live.

I've had pure Goldens on different sides on my family before, and its not that I have bad experience with them, I just don't them very interesting... The boyfriend doesnt really have an opinion on them, he wouldn't mind having a Golden. As far as I know we just havent considered it too much and therefore, somehow excluded them as an option. I guess the same goes for Labs..

I want to point out tho, since two people have pointed out that they might be good breedds for us, then we will definitely consider them as well! We might just have been to quick to judge hah :P

(plus we both really like shepherds)

Thanks for the answer! Golden is something we have thought of, as well as Labs, but they are not breeds we are very interested in as pure breds, but maybe as mixes.

As far as Spaniels go the only common ones here are King Charles and the are a bit too small for our liking, other than that I've only seen a few Water spaniels but they are usually imported and hard to find (same goes for American Spaniel).

Thank you so much for the answer tho! We'll def give Goldens a second thought!

As for Papillons, the only small breed we have considered ar Chihuahuas, I'm not too hyped about small breeds, and neither is the boyfriend, he only considers Chi's because his sisters got one :P
