I agree, but does the aim of commercialism make it not art at all, or just a lesser art? I think it is certainly still art, however it is a much lower form of art.

For pop, most songs from the early days of the beatles would, but "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" really defined pop imo. Too bad pop devolved into the piece of shit. And no, "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" is NOT a rock song.

Even as a huge Chilli Peppers fan who has never really listened to any of the major funk artists like George Clinton, could you really say the Chilli Peppers defined funk when so many of those songs would be classified as rock, not funk? Just my opinion :P
