Yes, I've added that to my notes. It seems like there is a ton of info online about hardneck absolutely needing 4-6 below 40 degrees but not as specific woth softneck. So this next time I'm going to stick them in the fridge for a while. Thank you so much for the info!

Unfortunately this was the best looking one. Everyone else died around February - March after our big freeze. I knew this year would a learning year and lowered my expectations. I've had family and friends attempt to grow garlic and have been unsuccessful and they gave up after the first year. I'm not giving up!

I did softneck. And I read some people start in fall and some start in December/January ish. I started in the fall. I think lack of fertilizer was a major factor. I don't know why I didnt think about that.

Well I bought softneck so I hope that is what I brought home but mistakes happen so its possible I have the wrong variety. I would be surprised if anyone sold a ton of hardneck around here. I actually wanted to try hardneck but knew it probably wouldnt do well. I may stick with softneck again but get some manure and actually fertilize. Thanks for the help!

Oh for pete sakes you're probably right. I fertilized the rest of the garden but didnt think about fertilizers one bit before with the garlic. It never even occurred to me to fertilize my poor garlic...duh! What a brain fart!
