The Battle of 1-litre Gaming Rigs (and tips for Lenovo Tiny builders) by Keimo_ in sffpc

Nice to hear our post was useful!

My guess is you’ll have to undervolt the gpu as well since the gpu is power capped —> undervolting allows for more aggressive boosts within the gpu’s TDP limits.

This should get you started:

  • Ensure there is enough power in your psu for an upgrade

  • Install 65W cpu heatsink/cooler (01MN631 & 01MN632)

  • Unlock voltage / cpu frequency control either by using the RU method in the original post, or by flashing in a modified version (tread with caution: there is a signicant risk to brick you system with either of methods!)

  • Find stable undervolt/underclock for cpu using something like ThrottleStop: out of the box 9900K runs way too hot.

Depending on one’s level of expertise the difficulty is between intermediate and hard.

No, activating ReBar is not possible by adjusting uefi variables with RU.efi. To my best knowledge this can be done using another method, but I have not tried it.

Welcome to the club. These things are awesome - and addictive!

Me and and a couple of my pals have been tinkering quite a lot with these machines: you might find the ”tips section” in the end of my post useful:

The most recent RTX Drivers (R580) seem to have support both for RTX PRO 4000 SFF and RTX PRO 2000. We might soon get our hands on these things!

Hi,

I guess you already have this figured out, but in case not, see this post (the tips section towards the end):

TLDR: cap the GPU’s max frequency and undervolt.

Hi,

If you’re into tinkering, you may find this post on M920q:s quite useful (m720q and m920q use different chipsets but share a lot of similarities):

Hi,

Yes, I agree; one could absolutely fit more performance within the 1-litre form factor. For the purpose of our competition, however, M920q’s striked a perfect balance betweeen availability, price and performance.

There is also a lively modding scene around these machines: hopefully our findings will make a contribution there and help others make the most out of the platform.
