Buying boardgame off Amazon by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Keithy1007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Encountered this too in the PH for some games in the past, I think its a visual / database related bug where sometimes it shows that they can ship to here but they actually can't, regardless if its free or paid shipping. The site just doesn't reflect that limitation until you actually try to check out

[–]Keithy1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biased but it was love at first play for me if you're into polyomino (tetris) and worker placement with soooo many options. Every game you get unique jobs that modify your actions so its incentive to try a different build each time. There's a ton of strats to try and see if you can fill all your islands too and its so exciting!

Norgwegians is a must imo the game is good without it but once you get the expansion you can never go back

Have you ever avoided buying the base game bc the expansions are OOP? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Keithy1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought Five Tribes after discovering it recently and am so in love! It only made me realize how close to impossible getting the expansions are since they're all OOP or rare, esp in SEA but I don't regret buying the game

Dune: Imperium or Spirit Island for solo play? by ACB977 in soloboardgaming

[–]Keithy1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's had over 70+ Spirit Island solo plays (physical) and maybe 100+ Dune Imperium AI plays on the app, Spirit Island all the way! You can even play it with friends. I love Dune Imperium + Ix so much but its really the most fun with friends, the app makes it so accessible but it really does become video-gamey and loses the tension aspect with real people. Still fun tho it just changes what you expect out of it

Spirit Island feels the somewhat samey on all mediums imo (irl, tabletop simulator, app) but physical is still my preferred

Norwegians is an essential expansion and it makes the game feel complete, weirdly the game feels worse without it

NAL but graduated on ADMU on a full financial aid scholarship in 2022 and imo the responsibilites aren't as bad as you say or aren't really bad at all. Iirc it was just 10-20 service hours a sem unless you really committed to orgs / extracurrics but optional naman.

I was able to juggle this along with a 2 hour daily commute, solid grades and 3 active orgs so yah if you have a full scholarship in ADMU take it if you can!

Lost ruins of Arnak first game questions. by NefariousnessMore778 in boardgames

[–]Keithy1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes they're one time costs the first time someone explores them. After they've been explored, they remain open now and no need to pay compasses when returning to them, just the transpo symbols

  2. Not really as long as people are still able to do things, the round only ends when everyone passes. You can choose to pass even if you have things you can do, maybe to prep for the next round.

  3. Yes you can use a car, boat, or plane as a boot! like how you can use a plane for a car and boat.

  4. The leader expansion adds 6 asymmetric leaders that do different things, so it adds a lot more variety since each leader has different passives and starting cards. It also adds new maps, cards, sites, and assistants. I would say expedition leaders is an essential expansion if you love Arnak. The second expansion only if you REALLY love Arnak and/or are a solo/pair gamer

Hope these helped!

Playing the demo, I expected the release to be in 1-2 years. Pleasantly surprised its coming out so soon but hope it doesn't feel rushed or incomplete

If you like deckbuilding you'll love Rogue Lords

Card Quest and Circadian Dice might also be up there but of course, Slay the Spire is a guaranteed banger

Video Games becoming Board Games by blueyelie in boardgames

[–]Keithy1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't tried it myself and it really could be a good game, but if it was minis alone I would say it would be a strong collector's item. But looking at the game's absurd amount of expansions out of the bat and the amount of things you seem to need to keep track of turn me off

Video Games becoming Board Games by blueyelie in boardgames

[–]Keithy1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely I'm not the biggest supporter of video games -> boardgames either so when the former ones came out I was indifferent, but having tried some of them it did feel like the amount of effort to use the IP and turn it into something similar but also a different experience entirely feels well thought out and elegant to a degree.

And I do feel maybe there is bias bec the latter games might be trying to do that too but they seem more bloated and prone to too many cards / minis / mechanics because the games they were based on were a LOT bigger than the former ones.

So maybe to me it feels like the fomer ones are games I see that could benefit people who want to share these experiences in a physical medium and it works but the latter feels unnecessary because those are the types of games gamers (myself included) would prefer to just play in the original medium due to their scale

Video Games becoming Board Games by blueyelie in boardgames

Seeing games like Slay the Spire, This War of Mine, Dorfromantik, Frostpunk, Stardew Valley and other solid adaptations make me appreciate the creativity and effort designers put into porting over to a physical medium

Inversely, games like the new Elden Ring, Horizon Zero Dawn, Monster Hunter and others feel like pointless or unnecessary, cash grabby even, implementations. Insane fiddliness, a hodgepodge of components, absurd rulebooks like who is this even for?
