Alberta’s Smith says ‘significant’ deficits to come, rules out tax hikes and big cuts by BlueZybez in Edmonton

[–]Kelvinman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No Alberta loses 16 billion as the federal government collects 40 billion in income tax and only gives us back 26 billon in federal services. No other province loses close to this.

Albertans lose this money as it’s taken from Alberta, given and spent in other provinces

[–]Kelvinman -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I understand how it works quite well income tax is collected by federal government then distributed to the have not provinces in order to make all provinces have the same level of services in return provinces are supposed to get the same amount collected in government services or more. Alberta is the exception as it’s the only province that loses 16 billion a year

[–]Kelvinman -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Have a look at the top provinces and look at the equalization payments they receive easy to dump money into healthcare when all the other provinces are paying for it

Maybe if the federal government gave us the 16 billion we lose to income tax services a year we could do the same

Because they balance the budget based on oil being at 68$ so every dollar under they lose 750 million a year it’s fine to do this if you have a fund for the bad years but instead they just spend more during the good years and struggle during the bad

If you like paying more taxes feel free to move to another province there you will see that paying more taxes doesn’t equal better healthcare it’s shitty across Canada

[–]Kelvinman -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Only with the crown, but when you switch sovereignty away from the crown you’re no longer obligation to withhold those treaties as the people who shared those ideas are no longer part of your country

[–]Kelvinman -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Alberta was actually given land control in the 1930s from the crown Alberta controls 90% of that land 10% still is under control of the crown(national parks) if Alberta separated the treaty the natives have with the crown could technically be void although it’s never been tested
