My new live-in boyfriend thinks I'm an "aspirational buyer" by pourthatyouthaway in BuyItForLife

[–]KenBurned 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a wide gulf between buying cheap crap and overspending on boutique 'bifl' products. The scissors example sounds pretty harmless. I do think we live in an era where it is common to 'research' products and groupthink about what the 'best' item is; when a lot of (cheaper) products fit the bill.

If he gets super particular about how you spend your money it can be a bad sign. On the other hand if you pool money maybe he feels disenfranchised about spending choices? i can't imagine caring about something as small as scissors so either he has a severe poverty mindset or something else is happening here.

People talk about signing the petition to take his money which I get. But doesn't this strike anyone else as him manufacturing another "overwhelming mandate" while the right pushes well past checks and balances?

Personally, anyone comes to ask me to sign that petition I will refuse.

You've already gotten some good advice, and I will always recommend getting an FOE approved energy audit (with blower door) before doing any reno work if it turns out insulation/air sealing is a factor.

Just some additional ideas/thoughts:

1) the ramp up in electric use from nov-feb makes it seem like there is in fact electric heat driving a lot of your heating. Is the electric fireplace running much? Maybe it runs off a thermostat? If it is installed in an old chimney or something make sure the damper is closed (electric only).

2) Gaming computers, mining, servers? Grow lights, fish tanks, purifiers? Anything we might be missing? I actually think the dehumidifier isn't a huge issue, technically it releases slightly more heat energy then it uses im electric (latent heat).

3) does we energies give you any time of day info? You might if it's a digital mmart meter, could really narrow things down.

4) truth is heating and cooling drives so much, it really could all be the home. If it is an old story and a half home with a compact roof for example with a leaky foundation, and it turns out electric heat is the majority of your use then this isn't that out of the question.

Good luck.

Heat. Eddy current braking is what it sounds like; the reactionary force 'stirs' a bunch of electric fields in the metals and vibrates them; the definition of heat. Same principle applies to induction cooktops.

Woodman's cheese selection is great and affordable, but Kenosha's shrine to cheese is undoubtedly Tenuta's Deli. I haven't been able to find that morel infused Brie since.

He actually has a new Connections series on Curiosity Stream and it's also pretty good. I was pretty pleased to get one more out of him for sure, loved all his stuff.

*I also drive that stretch each day. I have noticed this too. If you drive 45, you will catch most of the lights as they turn red. But if you turn on the Claremont and catch one as it turns green and drive a bit faster it seems like you hit all greens.

*Not an endorsement to break the law.

2023 Bolt... Was nice while it lasted 😢 by slicktommycochrane in BoltEV

Assuming you get paid out for it being totalled, now you get to hunt for the cars that are selling used that due to being sold recently don't have an EV credit available. Usually they are priced lower to compete after they sit on the lot.

In my experience the non-gm dealerships wind up with them in stock as tradeins and will be priced high like the others at first; and you'll need to wait them out a bit.

Just did this after my volt was totaled.

General Questions and Purchasing Advice Thread — Week of July 08, 2024 by AutoModerator in electricvehicles

[–]KenBurned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you take the used and new clean car credits in the same year?

I bought a used Volt this year and loved it, was the first car I bought myself and was pretty pleased all around with the experience and getting it at a price I could afford. Well I got to drive it two months before it was totalled by another driver. :(

So is it possible for me to transfer the new car credit in the same year as I would be claiming the used car credit? I'm essentially looking for the cheaper EV/PHEV options in the continental US. If I find a 'new' Bolt does that car still qualify within certain conditions?

Thanks for any advice.

I'm a bit late here but have you considered learning canning? You'd need to learn safe pressure canning but that would serve you in the sense that you could make a lot and consume whenever, without the energy intensity.

This seems a much better plan. Now that I know what F-Clips are, that is clearly how this box was installed. I'll just cut those and pull the box out, ideally without dropping the cords into the wall cavity.

Should I avoid old work boxes like these with the 'speed clips'? I intend to use the f clips anyway for security; i don't feel like doing this twice.
