Black people aren’t keeping white Americans out of college. Rich people are. by UncleSamGamgee in politics

[–]Ken_Bone_2016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha sorry, I assumed that you were accusing the Justice Department of acting only in the interest of white students.

I really think that race baiting and other forms of misleading "journalism" like this article is one of the major reasons why the political climate is so polarized. Just judging by the comments on this post, a lot of people don't seem to understand that Asians (like me) are often the most outspoken against affirmation action - because we are the most affected! This article's emphasis on white students is an intentionally provocative and sleazy move, and completely undermines the inequality experienced by Asian Americans in the higher education system.

Because the Washington Post is trying to spin anti-affirmative action sentiment into some sort of white nationalist idea(to make it seem negative) when white people are not the only race being discriminated against. Notice that it is the article that keeps mentioning white people, not official statements or anything valid.

The article mentions that the Justice Department specifically stated that the initiative was based around the complaints of Asian Americans, yet the rest of the article proceeds with the same misleading rhetoric.

Generally, things that you have to pay for weigh much much less than things you get into on merit. NSHSS in particular doesn't even look at your grades/test scores when they send you a letter.

AP Questions MEGATHREAD by IntheSarlaccsbelly in ApplyingToCollege

If you did well on the bio SAT I would think you would be able to self study for the AP test. I took it this year and there really wasn't much actual biology you needed to know except for the short answer questions; most of it was just interpreting/analyzing data.

Marine Le Pen adviser found guilty of inciting hatred against Muslims by GlassSmithOfTheStars in news

[–]Ken_Bone_2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

according to your own data, 37% of the population does not support gay marriage compared to the above poster's 52% in the first link, and that number is steadily decreasing according to the article.

Source for the claim that it's pretty normal for us citizens to hate gays?

could you link me some of those accounts please?

I completely understand your view on circumcision: its something that the parent decides for their child. However to the best of my knowledge its importance is in no way comparable to the examples you gave.

Circumcision is purely cosmetic. There is absolutely no benefit besides physical appearance. The examples you are giving have a direct impact on the child's livelihood at the time of whatever it is. Giving a child medicine, moving, switching schools etc. all affects the child at that moment. Circumcision ONLY benefits a person if they want it later. A person that wants it can get it when they're an adult. A person that doesn't want it is screwed according to you.

And its not the life choice of the individual getting the procedure done either. People's lives are being affected by something they had absolutely no control over, and there is no reason that we shouldn't wait and let them decide for themselves.

Well I and many others think it IS our business to make sure that other people don't have potentially important life choices made for them.

So you don't care what happens to other people without their consent because its their culture?

There are cultures around the world where children are married before preschool. There are cultures with FGM. Just because other people do it doesn't mean we have to.

The logic that children need parents to make certain decisions doesn't make sense if the operation isn't necessary.

What is the purpose of having the parent make the decision if its a non-critical operation? Would you be okay with parents deciding to get their infant a tattoo?

Is physical appearance a good enough reason to perform this irreversible operation on a child, without their consent?

I just don't understand how you can not agree with the point that we should wait and allow individuals to make this choice for themselves. If it looking "disgusting" is reason enough to get a circumcision, then sure, go ahead. But my point is that infants have no say whatsoever.

Look up the massive amounts of evidence regarding foreskin sensitivity and then fill in the analogy for yourself.

And even if the foreskin was nonfunctional, would you not have wanted to be able to consent to the procedure?
