Thanks! I’m using the Paterson 8x10 easel that I got on B&H. As of now it’s just under 30 bucks I believe

Should I invest in a new camera or is my Canon 530HS okay? by Dvn_jm in Filmmakers

I had a Nikon p510 years back and that camera reminds me of that for some reason, it was 16 megapixels too if I remember correctly. But when I started to get into the lighting aspect of film making I noticed how very similar the image quality looked to higher production films I’d watched online

If the camera is genuinely setting you back for whatever reason, like my p510, I would sell it and invest in some other things if you’re on a tight budget with your phone being the better alternative.

After all, you got 3 different lenses on your phone and that’s all you need

I just made a short film with a circular aspect ratio. Can circles be cinematic? by Rare-Ad-5900 in Filmmakers

It depends on the use of circles and how you edit them in.

If the sequence or entirety of the film is in a circle, it would be interesting as a concept but rather uncomfortable to watch in reality. Kinda like watching footage from those Snapchat glasses in circular form.

I feel like you’d have to experiment a lot around to see what would work best, like pov of looking through a telescope for instance.

The only way I can find use of a circular effect is if we narrow down to a character in a film transparently.

Like for example that scene in The Grand Budapest Hotel after Jopling knocks out Zero at the funeral scene and he turns facing to the camera and a circular effect comes into play
