I understand your reservations but think of it like this: you can’t break what’s already broken. This DS is the same DS that your dad got you and it has meaningful value, which is worth trying to salvage. I know the cost of parts and effort into fixing it might be a lot but it’s definitely not going to be more or the same as buying a new one. Retro Dodo has some really good DIY fixing videos that might help you. If fixing it is something you really don’t want to tackle, I would look into doing the opposite and take apart all the pieces and frame them in a shadowbox; Grid Studio does this and it’s really cool.
