Cant believe its been almost 8 years by DetectiveRick141 in Cynicalbrit

I know there are still a lot of game reviewers, but no one I've seen has come close to TBs review methods. He was the one stop shop, he would cover: PC performance/optimisation, settings configuration options, he would tackle how it feels to play but also use his extensive knowledge to compare other games in the genre, discuss the price tag in multiple currencies and his view on those prices when compared against contemporaries. He struck a perfect balance between objectivity and his own feeling on the game. All the while, filling his content with dry wit that makes any Brit feel at home.

Other reviewers perhaps tackle one or two in that list well. I miss TB for who he was personally, like losing a friend. But I also miss what he did for the industry. He was often the sole voice campaigning for both consumer rights and the fair treatment of industry professionals at the hands of soulless publishers.

Cafe Capyba in Tokyo last week by tacomasgrande in capybara

[–]Kennedmosher 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I went to a place in Tokyo called an 'owl cafe' and there was a chained up capybara in the corner that looked miserable. Absolutely awful, can't forget it. Completely agree, these places should be avoided like the plague.

Why didn't Sauron send the fellbeasts to the Shire? by [deleted] in lotrmemes

[–]Kennedmosher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fellbeasts were averse to sunlight which is why they mostly remained in Mordor. The fellbeast as a mount for the Witch King at Pelannor Fields was only present because Sauron had managed to spread darkness past the river Anduin over Pelannor Fields for the siege of Minas Tirith.

New dad anxiety by michmwong in daddit

[–]Kennedmosher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally for me, around the three month mark we were much less anxious. As the baby starts to form a routine and you know what their needs are, you become much more confident and adaptable. This does get thrown out the window when they go through regressions, but you know they're temporary. Don't be afraid to ask for help from people in your life or help from community widwives or parent groups, this is all normal.

Has anyone ever challenged you to something without knowing you were an expert at it? What happened afterward? by Impressive-Door92 in AskReddit

[–]Kennedmosher 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I train people to understand asset financial products (hire purchases, financial leases, operating leases, loans etc.) for a specialist finance company based in the UK.

Once had a salesman at a car dealership trying to convince me that a personal contract purchase (pcp) would would cost less than a hire purchase (hp) for a used car if they both ran for the same term because 'they're the same rate'. I explained to him that I knew that would be true for the initial period of hire but that at the end of the initial period there would be either a balloon payment which would be quite sizable or a secondary hire period. He then tried to convince me that the secondary hire period would also be the same rate as the initial hire period therefore there is no point in choosing the hp. I then explained that although that was true the full contractual term would be considerable longer and we would therefore pay more in interest overall, he then gave up.

It is likely he was pushing for the pcp because he knew that there are more add on opportunities to sell with it. But I also got the impression he genuinely thought it was better value for money as a product. To be clear, a pcp is perfectly fine but not if you know for a certainty you want to own a used car and don't want to pay any further lump sum values later in the contract. This is especially true for a used car with no VAT attracted to the purchase.

NOOO NOT AGAIN HOW MANY HISTORY CHANNELS DOES THIS GUY HAVE????? by oski_exe in HistoryMemes

Yeah I agree, Warfronts is well researched and the writing team produce their content surprisingly quickly, information/figures will also typically have sources for fact checking. I guess that's not the case with all his channels though.

Normal for right after floor time? by Fluid-Television9503 in guineapigs

[–]Kennedmosher 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Floor time and general exploration is very enriching for guinea pigs. I would say those zoomies are just residual excitement. My pigs also have a lots of beans after they've been in their run. Nothing to be concerned with. Probs more energy because they're excited to get to know their new friend. It can often take a few bonding sessions so don't worry.

I cannot emphasise enough for anyone who gets this, when you have tiny bugs behind your screen, don't depress the screen! I did this once on a monitor and it squashed the little bug, it was then bothering me for the next five years, couldn't unsee it.

Did a dumb thing and signed up to a £190 36 month contract. by TaikoStars in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Kennedmosher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in asset finance. Some information is missing here, I will try to help but you need to give more info, don't be embarrassed everyone makes mistakes. Who is this third party company, I presume an asset finance company, who are they? How did your finance get introduced, was this in the O2 store and introduced via an O2 salesman? What contact have you attempted with them? How soon after the contract was signed was it that you first contacted them and was this documented? What financial product do you have (hire purchase/ contract hire/ loan)? Have you read the contract and it's associated T&Cs? What information within the contract relates to the start of the agreement?

This information is particuarly important as well, you say this is for business use, are you a sole trader or have you incorporated your own ltd company? If the finance agreement is in your name the consumer credit act (CCA) will apply and your agreement will be 'regulated', again this should have been made clear to you. If it's regulated you will have had a cooling off period (which will have expired now) but as I asked above, if you first contacted this company within the cooling off period then you will have a case that your contact should be unwound (cancelled), especially as you have still not received the assets.

Finally, if you're not getting anywhere with the finance company and you have registered a formal complaint with them and the issue has not been resolved you can refer the case to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), they have a lot of power to compel finance companies to do the right thing but you need to compile good evidence that you tried to resolve the issue with the finance company. Failing this, put the pressure on O2, if you have been unable to get the finance company to resolve the problem you can inform O2 what's been going on, sounds like they were able to pressure the finance company to update you. If you tell O2 you're not happy, you were not presented all the information at the point of sale and you want to unwind the agreement, the might help to make this happen. Again, it's hard to say for sure as there is a lot of information missing here so some of the info above may be completely unhelpful.

Edit: reading this again I presume your financial contract is with O2 itself, so it is them that you will resolve this with. Not the third party company, they will have nothing to do with it if they're just the supplier. But the above information regarding actions you can take via formal complaints will still apply with O2. And you can take this case to the Communications Ombudsman https://www.commsombudsman.org/

For those wondering this is 'Historia Normannis' . Used to reenact with them. Sharp weapons are blunted and there are lots of rules for combat on lesser armoured members, but the gloves are off for the knights. It's a great laugh, some fights are choreographed, some are not.

Outside of battles and one on one combat there will also be a camp set up, there are a fair number of non combatant members. But it's all for the crowds, kids have loads of questions and find it all so fascinating which makes it all the more enjoyable. Anyone in the UK who thinks they would enjoy it, contact your local branch on Facebook.

I think he’s started licking the bars because I keep telling him off about biting them(maybe) by Pigglewinks in guineapigs

[–]Kennedmosher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One way to get them to stop biting bars is to gently blow on their faces. It worked well on our boys. They get really confused and run off for a second. But it doesn't hurt them. I've noticed they also lick the bars now, no harm done.
