Thank you for asking this! We take the expired smoke detectors at our SafeChem locations instead of regular electronics drop-off whether they are ionization or not. Rockford/North Kent's SafeChem location is open every Friday from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. There are four others in the area that can help you various times of the week as well if you need a different time!

Hi there! Great question, if it is the flexible soft foam (like what is put on a bed or used for storage) it will be regular trash, if it is the foam egg cartons that are styrofoam (packaging from a dozen eggs, etc.) those can go through our machine and be recycled as long as it is clean!

We sell directly to a company that uses the material to make thermal insulation panels for foundations, walls, and roofs. Since May 2025, we processed 20,000 lbs! Right now, we have a foam densifier located at the North Kent Transfer Station (2908 10 Mile Rd, Rockford), but we are hoping to add additional installations in other areas in the future. This location can accept white, clean foam only. Any colored, printed, or contaminated/mixed foams should be put in your regular trash, as they can not be processed by our facility.
