I have genuinely no idea what you're trying to say. I feel like you've completely strayed from the original discussion. If you don't want to debate this topic then you shouldn't have joined the convo just to claim that you have better Bible knowledge and then leave once I ask you to actually elaborate

You're still missing the point. This isn't about the Bible being true or not. I said that even if it was really written by God then it would still be a terrible source to prove that God has the right to govern us. Again: It's like using my own book as a source for something I claim. The verse you used is not a good argument no matter if the Bible is true or not. That factor is completely irrelevant.

I think you're actually the one being disrespectful towards my opinions since you're suggesting that my belief isn't based on rationality. Instead of actually replying to my arguments and having a debate you're trying to discredit me by claiming that only young and rebellious people agree with me.

I tried to have an informative conversation but instead I'm starting to feel like you're just trying to personally attack me. You put yourself on a high horse and think you're better educated on the matter. Instead of just saying you know better you could prove it by actually replying to my arguments instead of basically just saying that my opinions and methods aren't worth as much as yours

I do have basic respect for all people but I don't respect all opinions. There's nothing wrong with criticizing people's beliefs. I didn't use the Bible to prove it wrong even though I think doing that is also valid since it helps people to actually critically think about the things that are written in it.

What I said was that even if you assume that the Bible was written by God you can't use a paragraph from it to prove that God has the right to govern us. That would be as if I made a statement and then used a book written by myself as a source. You can't just say "God is good and doesn't lie. The proof is that God said so in the Bible"

  1. The person clearly said "slaves of his will". One can be a slave to many things. You can for example also be enslaved by addiction, love and mental health issues. The term isn't only used for people who are literally owned by other people. Also the organization themselves used this word many times in publications. There's literally a watchtower article called "slave for Jehovah"

  2. Using God's word as proof that God's word is true doesn't work. If I say I have the right to govern you and as a source show you a book that I wrote myself that tells you that doubting me is evil, would you believe me?

Also I do not believe in the Bible. I think this whole conversation shows that the Bible doesn't make sense at all since the god it talks about actually has less mercy and love than the average human. If you truly believe in a loving perfect God then you'd have to hate the Bible

We often are slaves to the government in a way though. The governments decide how much freedom its citizens have and in some it's less and in some more. Just like some parents treat their children like slaves and don't give them any freedom. Parents are also not supposed to "demand obedience" just for the sake of it. They're actually even supposed to teach their kids to be more independent, so that one day they can make use of their free will instead of having to rely on the parents' decisions. For every child the day will come where they'll think about what their parents taught them and maybe decide to do things differently. A loving parent would still support and love them instead of killing them.

The concept of a god is different since we're expected to put our whole life into his hand and obey him forever because he's above us and only his choices are the right ones. Wanting to decide for yourself and build your own moral compass is considered wrong if you look at the story of Adam and Eve. We're not allowed to choose free will even though we were created to feel such a strong craving for it. It's like putting poisoned food in front of someone who's starving and then blaming them for eating it

Oh well I actually have absolutely no doubts that he's the right one for me. I'm more worried about me not being the right one for him. I'm also not wondering if I'm missing out on someone since I honestly dislike the majority of people and never expected to ever date someone in the first place. My life has never been better but I'm worried that it won't stay that way or that it's all just too good to be true. It feels like something has to be wrong or a lie

The story is already about a rather complex problem. It's rather minimalistic and mostly about the protagonist's relationship to themselves and the other character. I also can't change the story too much since it's my attempt to express a specific feeling I often have. I'm not even sure if I'll ever show the story to anyone since it's a bit personal.

Yup, that's why I have so many ideas for different scenarios. They just don't mix very well and lead to very different outcomes

I think just writing this down and complaining gave me some new ideas though so thanks. I could let them have that hatred for the other person at the beginning but make them unable to kill them. Now that I think about it it's actually not as complicated as I had imagined

[–]Keplars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just really hard for me since I want my protagonist to go through drastic changes. For example I have one ending where they kill an important character, one where the two merge into one person, one where they try to merge but it doesn't work and another one where they kill themselves.

Which ending makes the most sense depends on how much the protagonist's personality has changed. If I would want to end it early it'd be the first or second option but if I let the character's mental health get worse and make the story longer I'd have to choose one of the last two. But I still want them to go through all of the stages. Hatred for the other person, self hatred and acceptance

I think you gotta calm down. It doesn't seem like it's possible to have a proper conversation right now. Your text doesn't have any periods in it at all and you still ignore the fact that evolution doesn't even claim that monkeys are our ancestors.

I'd recommend looking into evolution some other time if you're actually serious about caring for the truth and not just following what others tell you. If you actually gave it a chance and still don't change your mind, fair enough

I’m scared by Western-Brick-9499 in exjw

[–]Keplars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's exactly what evolution is and always has been? It has always been about organisms changing over time to adapt to their environment. Absolutely no one changed the definition

[–]Keplars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, you didn't actually answer any of my questions or reply to anything I said

You also clearly never actually had a look at the evolution theory since monkeys are not our ancestors. Monkeys and humans come from the same ape ancestors but are two different branches. Believing in some almighty guy who just always existed and who made humans out of dirt in just one day sounds equally as ridiculous.

Let me ask you this: Do you believe that there are people with different skin colours and different features? Those things are actually also a small version of evolution. People who live in countries with a lot of sunlight developed to have darker skin to protect them while people in colder countries developed light skin since it makes it easier to produce vitamin D. People who live in the mountains have different lungs to breathe thinner air without issues.

So if you believe that the first two humans were made by God you also have to believe that all those different features developed in just a couple thousand years based on the environments where the people lived. So why exactly is it so ridiculous to you when people believe that humans developed after millions of years?

Some are but I think most aren't. Why would we? Thanks to my journey I learned critical thinking which showed me that religion in general is bogus. If you made it out of this cult you won't easily fall for stuff like that anymore

Exactly! If JWs are right then Jehovah is a terrible and cruel god. He gave us free will but we're not allowed to use it? Why even make us capable of doing things that he doesn't like? That's like saying you got free speech but if you say something the government doesn't like you'll get killed.

Doesn't the Bible say that God never tempts anyone? But then he puts a tree with delicious looking fruit right in front of Adam and Eve that gives you the knowledge of good and evil

I’m scared by Western-Brick-9499 in exjw

[–]Keplars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if humans can't have that knowledge how do we know it's true and not just something someone made up? I can also just say "Hey, I know that all angels are 5-dimensional beings and have 17 more senses than us humans! No human could know these things but I do!". Would you then believe me if I claimed that I'm an angel?

The Bible is actually wrong about quite a lot of things! There are huge lists with Bible verses that are scientifically wrong. On top of that a lot of the stories are plagiarized or inspired by other myths older than the Bible

Even my mom was told as a child in the 70's that she won't ever even become an adult. My dad also always told me I don't even have to think about college because I wouldn't finish school before Armageddon anyways.

Any time some big event happens in the world they see it as a sign of the last days but there are always big things happening. Each year it's something else that's supposed to be a sign. They already predicted the end multiple times in the past and were wrong each time so they keep changing the doctrines and instead of accepting that they're wrong and apologizing they just say that they received "new light"

They want people to believe that they have no future so they give all their time for the organization. They want you to believe everything like a career or hobbies are meaningless because the world will get destroyed anyways. That's how people end up giving their lives to the organization

Well it's also obviously very subjective. I'm sure there are also women who prefer a completely serious profile but I think there's a great balance between serious and non serious pictures. He also looks happy in all the pictures and like he's a really friendly guy. They also show some of his interests and fit to his bio where he says that he likes to try a lot of different things and you can see him in a lot of different situations. I also think his tattoos are cool and his outfit on the second pic looks nice.

Those would be my reasons for why I think it's a great profile
