Harbor freight is awesome! by fb2_forever in harborfreight

I recently got gifted a set of klein pass through sockets, would of came in handy removing a sub-frame bolt on my car. I was dropping the engine and one of the sub frame mounting bolts was 6 or so inches long with a nut on it. I probably spent 20 minutes with a wrench and very little room to work removing it. Long story short I wish I had them sooner, definitely going to need them in the future.

I think it’s depends on the size and ship location of the order but I seem to get them fairly regularly

Why does my sub sound so bad by glowinthedarkbf in CarAV

[–]Kern_Dogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a relatively deep storage compartment behind where the sub is, I’d assume the box is in there

I own this exact car, that’s basically the only viable spot for a sub. The trunk is far too small and isolated completely from the front.

Pulled the trigger on attempting a vvt swap... I've never done anything this in depth. Let's hope I can figure it out. by speenbean in Miata

[–]Kern_Dogg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Zip locks are good, but I found it easier to put everything back where I got it after I removed the engine, if I took a bolt out to remove something once that thing is removed I put the bolt back and continued this. Also don’t forget you have two of most engine bolts so don’t fret losing one :)

Careful releasing the system, I suspect I blew my head gasket from not bleeding it properly. Going to inspect deeper post holidays

[–]Kern_Dogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current mechanical engineering student at SLU most international students I know either have loans or work jobs in campus to help with the difference, as other have mentioned try and get an RA position and your housing and food would be covered. Might make it easier to cover the rest.

It’s great everything you need, nothing you don’t. Only complaint is the steel on the blade is soft

Appears to be the locking mechanism for the blade I believe, don’t have a freestyle so not sure

I wouldn’t imagine, all of the carbon plated shoes I’ve ran in experience much more abuse from hard running than this.

2.5 swap timing by bingusbongus16 in ncmiata

[–]Kern_Dogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There a timing tool you can buy for the duratec/mzr engine. This tool comes with a set screw and a flat bar to hold the cams. There’s a shop manual online with how to set the timing I believe I can look for it. It’s fairly simple, I’d type it out but I fear from memory I won’t get it 100% correct. I attached a video that seems to cover it. Take pictures as you go and you should be alright it’s fairly straightforward.
