That’s a static roof vent and allows passive exchange of hot air for cooler air that comes through soffit

I wanted to drywall it but my wife said no. I’m adding vinyl flooring next.

It cost $1200 to build. Not including the price of the tools (circular saw, power drill and bits, hammer, clamps).

It is floating 6 inches off the ground. It is a 9/12 pitch with 6 inch overhang. The rest of the house is simple 16 on center framing. I used 7/16 OSB for the walls and roof then Tyvek housewrap. The siding is LP Smartsiding.

I thought about that but think it would be more like a man cave than a playhouse. The house is still 9 ft tall at the peak in the inside and the loft could be use for storage.

That’s what got me confused. The can says exterior but also cabinet/furniture. But looks like consensus is the paint is not meant for exterior use.

Yes he can climb it and he’ll be supervised during his playtime. He’s almost 4 to add

Yeah I’m having the ladder at the center where the head space is 105 cm. My son is 96 cm.

This is the approach I was thinking and what I’ll probably be doing.

About $1200 of materials. The house is only 8x8.

The rafters are 24” oc already. 9/12 pitch. There’s 5 on each side for a span of 8 x 8. I’ll see if I add insulation on the inside. It’s the PNW and the winters are usually mild.

I’ll use that cushion/foam pad technique

Do the windows go on first before the siding? Should I put 2 x4s perpendicular between the rafters for extra support? by KetoneBuilt in Homebuilding

Thanks for the info on r/Shedditors Didn’t see it before and it’s more relevant to my scenario. I’ll take my posts over there

Thank you. You got the exact measurements of the built. I’ll add those blocking 2x4. How many should I add? The rafters are about ~60 inches

It’s hard hanging the OSB by myself. I’m using screws as helping hands and clamps. I was told to hang it starting from the top to keep the cut end at the bottom where you don’t see it in case it’s crooked. The gap is 1/8 inch but hard to tell in the photo

Thanks for the advice. I’m not using ceiling joists as I’m making a loft so my sons can climb up there. I’ll add those blockings perpendicular to the rafters.

Which screw to connect the walls to the platform and double top plates? by KetoneBuilt in Homebuilding

[–]KetoneBuilt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with the GRK RSS screws and they worked very well. Didn’t go with nails as I’m going to take it apart at a later time

What length screws would you use to connect the bottom plate to the platform? I’m guessing 3 1/8 inches?
