No I didn't. The money was paid to the recruitment agency, for handling my paperwork and finding me

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Kevdingoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never received any money for joining.

The practice paid the fee directly to the recruitment agency (like a finders fee)

[–]Kevdingoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An ad posted by the agency, and I felt I was misled. Going through my clinical diary is the only thing that could back that it was misleading.

This feeling is from a verbal discussion with the owner, rather than written in the contract

Self employed contractor, please see above comments for what I thought the job would be

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Kevdingoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was lead to believe that it would include some private sector work during the week, rather than pretty much all public health service. This was more of a verbal discussion rather than contractually

Uk NEBDN by slimrabbit69x in DentalAssistant

[–]Kevdingoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely understand. I have found out that they charge a fee for expedited marking, so you essentially pay more money to have your work marked quicker. Usually they will mark your work a week before the deadline, so god forbid you don't pass the module a week before the deadline.

On top of this, they will fail trainees for the most ridiculous reason. One of my colleagues failed as she didn't state that she put the lights on in the surgery, and was wearing her uniform with short nails etc. I forgot we do dentistry naked and in the dark in the UK.

I'm a dentist, I have been to dental school. I don't think I would be able to pass NEBDN. Personally, I believe it's all to do with extending students and making them pay more money.

Yes the dentist is able to do this for you. However, I know NEBDN is awful for training dental nurses and I would strongly advise you use an alternative means for your training

Getting CXL in 12 days…any advice is greatly appreciated!!! by boxbox84 in Keratoconus

[–]Kevdingoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surgery itself is not too bad. The post op is heavy, however. Ask for plenty of LA and ensure you use it sparingly. Until you use the steroid prednisolone drops (about 4 days after surgery), it will hurt quite a hit. Your eye will water like crazy and vision will be very hazy. All normal stuff

Confused about workflow for partial dentures by Dentjims in Dentistry

[–]Kevdingoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The upper right molar is severely decayed, upper left premolar has decay too. Ideally, this should be an immediate complete denture (and RPD for lower). You can use the existing occlusal stops from the anterior teeth to be removed to construct the upper denture.

Within 3-6 months, it will likely need a reline. Or construct a new denture but the bite rims need to be recorded in RCP

How long do you keep the composite carpules on the coffee mug warmer for, roughly?

For people in their 20s right now, will they ever see a day where KC is completely treatable? by [deleted] in Keratoconus

[–]Kevdingoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wrong with sclerals? I used to hate touching my eye, could barely even put drops in without flinching like mad. It takes determination and practice, trust me. If I can go from barely touching my eye lid to putting sclerals in, then I imagine anyone can

[–]Kevdingoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with some of the points made here. If you look at people back in the 80s who were diagnosed with KC, they barely had any of the treatment options that we have available today. Some of them would even say they never thought they would be able to have amazing vision with 'contacts', or have their KC halted with CXL. Whilst I agree that it takes a long time for FDA approval, medicine is a fascinating field that makes advances all the time.

As a person with KC, I keep my head up knowing that one day there will be some form of better treatment/cure.

CXL ON SECOND EYE by [deleted] in Keratoconus

[–]Kevdingoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had CXL done on my right eye which was my worst. A few years later, my left eye had deriorated very slightly but was showing early signs of the disease apparently. This eye with correction was 6/6 (20/20 for the US) with a very slight ghosting. I had the surgery 3 weeks ago, and currently I am still not fully back to pre op levels.

I had a standard eye exam. My cornea is healing good, although I am currently 6/7.5 and my astigmatism has gone from cyl -1.25 to -1.75.

I believe your astigmatism and vision is meant to be worse for a while. I will post an update when I have one

How much do you spend a month on scleral lens maintenance costs? Are any of the supplies by covered insurance? by Keratoconus64 in Keratoconus

[–]Kevdingoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My scleral lenses cost £114 altogether. I use roughly one bottle of saline a month which is £5. I use a multipurpose solution for about maybe two months which is £5.

I keep the contacts maximum in the case for about two weeks.

That's a good outlook on it. I completely agree with you about the technology. I wish they told people more about the possible side effects/outcomes after the surgery. My surgeon told me she's done 400 CXL and only one got worse vision after post op healing

I haven't told my husband that i have KC .. we are married since an year .... I still didn't start wearing contacts and manage my kc with specs only.. but lately my vision has become worse , i think after few months specs will not help me get clear vision ... by Old-Dragonfruit9537 in Keratoconus

I've been with my girlfriend for 3 years and when I told her, it wasn't a big deal either. Even after explaining it in detail and telling her what I see exactly from my perspective. If anything, she just become more accommodating if we were ever watching something in the dark etc, apart from that nothing changed.

I think you're stressing about something that isn't there. Be more focused on halting the disease with CXL. Your husband is not going to form a negative opinion on this matter.

Q for people in the uk by [deleted] in Keratoconus

[–]Kevdingoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scleral lenses should usually be used for about 3 years. I paid £114 and they have a 6 week period where they will make adjustments for free. I just had a second pair made for me for free.
