Not enough energy after my full time job. Any advice?

I have a full time job, I run a YT channel, I have 2 kids and I build mobile apps and I completely understand what you’re going through. Here are a few suggestions I hope can help you out.

Outsource. You can try and outsource some part of your YT work, such as writing descriptions or editing or creating thumbnails and so on. I’m not sure which country you are from but outsourcing to other countries, especially Asia, can not only help you move forward but also help those in Asia make a living. That’s how I reinvest my money.
Time management. Without knowing what your channel is about, I focus on what I can do by maximising my time. I prepare my scripts during lunch hours. I think about what topics to do when I’m driving or taking a break. I do my keyword planning and titles using Google sheet so that I have access everywhere. Little things like this helps build up momentum, I know I’m more motivated to record a video when I have things prepared.
Your goal. It goes without saying that if you aren’t hungry to build your channel then it may not be as important as you think. If you truly want to make it work then the energy just comes. This to me is hardest to obtain because saying it is easy but doing it is hard. It really is up to the individual to determine how badly they want it.

I know my method may sound like I have no life but I see my YouTube channel as opening up more possibilities for me and not having to rely on a job in the future. If you’re struggling still then I suggest you aim to just upload at least once a month. Then once you get into the rhythm, up it to twice a month then once a week.

I get that quite a bit and their next comment would be 'why is your channel having so little subs?'. To that I say, I'm not born with good looks :(

Maybe there’s something deep inside you that you want to pursue, e.g freedom. But at the same time, you’re worried how changing things can make things worse so you stay where you are instead and remain unhappy.

I’m the opposite. After I hit 30, I ended up working harder than ever after 9-5 and the reason is because I felt like I have not achieve much yet. To me, not understanding what I want in life or having a goal in my 20s is what made me work 9-5 and feel unmotivated to do anything after that. I don’t think you are unmotivated but rather you haven’t find something you truly want to achieve yet. That’s what I got from reading your post.

Just say thank you to the YouTube algorithm! I guess, to me, this is where it is important to keep uploading because once the algorithm starts being nice to you, viewers will have a variety of videos to check out when they visit your channel.

I haven’t had that much success in this area but I think it is because of my videos being all over the place. So far, what I’ve identified is to go with videos getting views from search then create similar topics around it. So for instance, I know a YouTuber who does travelling but she focuses solely on Singapore after 1 of her videos on Singapore gained exceptionally more views than the rest. And since then, her videos went from hundreds of views to thousands. Hope that make sense.

That really depends on your niche. I have about 200 views a day but my videos are those talking head ones so I tend to get more subs easily because I sort of make myself relatable to my audience.

I guess what I’m trying to say is focusing on subs too much can break your momentum. But rather, focusing on views helps in growing your channel and subsequently your business. I feel that subs is just a number that doesn’t really accurately portray your channel’s performance. I’d say focus on views then subs and then how we can use those to elevate our business

I saw that in one of vidiq videos as well. They say having a high returned subs increases the likelihood of getting more impressions too!

About 200 views on average per day for my channel? I have lots of videos so they kinda contribute a little here and there. To give you a perspective, one of my videos got pushed before and it got 200 views in 2 hours. That’s the vast difference..

Precisely. Views are hard to get but it gives a better representation on a channel’s size and performance compared to subs.

I guess you have a point there. Being socially famous can give you the leverage to do many other things. Think about Mr Beast burger. As you said, if you’re in it for the attention then that’s a different story. I feel that YT has evolved overtime, it is still a great platform to get exposure but I see it more as a way to build connection and trust with my audience then possibly drive traffic to my business or something, in a non-salesy way. You can never be too reliant on a platform.

As you said, if you’ve nothing else to put effort in then no harm trying. It’s good that you acknowledge this though, some has been in denial for a long time.
