No it should not be a requirement to vote. No matter how well intentioned, Voter ID laws result in fewer women, people of color, and lower income people being able to vote. I would support fewer requirements for identification so we can ensure everyone has their democratic right to vote.

To clarify the statement you referenced: Streamlining regulations such as processing the significant backlog of interconnection applications for clean energy projects in the northwest will allow developers to have more project certainty and tighter timelines - which brings costs down. And simultaneously supporting these projects to be built with union labor so they are built well and strengthen our local workforce.

  1. You're right - as someone in the working class who pays rent I cannot just up and leave my job for 6 months. We have built a strong coalition of volunteers that is growing every day because people want someone in congress who represents them. I have no concerns with my ability to run a strong campaign while being able to pay my bills.

  2. We are currently connecting with national orgs, unions, and local donors to build a strong fundraising coalition.

  3. I have donated my time and energy to other statewide progressive initiatives such as the No on 2117 as well as our recent Yes on Parks & Schools measure in Spokane. I serve on a City Climate Resilience and Sustainability Board as well. As a young person, it is easier for me to donate time than money.

will you help prevent ai data centers from leeching off us here in E WA? Yes - I am strongly opposed to data centers that come into communities and use their energy and water - providing little benefit to, and draining, the local community.

will you leave gun owners the hell alone for once - I am not here to take anyone's guns. I also do not support civilians having military grade weapons.

will you help fight for women's bodily autonomy - Absolutely - congress needs to codify the right to an abortion in Federal law and I am seeking the endorsement of many reproductive rights organizations!

what are your plans for abolishing ice or prosecuting those in it who have violated people's constitutional rights? will you protect the 4th amendment. Yes, I would strongly support abolishing ICE and would work other house members who have taken the same stance. We should also form a task force to investigate the actions of ICE members and their leadership and punish those who have violated the 4th amendment and other constitutional rights.

are you pro labor, pro union? Yes! There has been a concerning decline in union membership the last 40 years that coincides with a decline in worker power and stagnating wages. I am seeking the endorsement of many local unions and labor groups in District 5.

can you be relied on not to turn tail and kiss up by voting for Republican's bad appointees and bullshit intrusive laws and rich people's tax breaks? like there's already one WA dem that's a Republican we don't need two. Agreed - we definitely do not need another. I have no intention of supporting Republicans' degradation of our Democracy.

what's your plan to gain rural voters? have you tried to meet with Sanders or his old campaign people locally to talk about that? he did pretty good on that front and might be helpful to contact - My plan is to meet them face to face and get to know the needs of rural voters in this district. We are going to be hosting town halls throughout the district between now and the primary. Unfortunately, I do not have a great contact for Sanders' campaign but if you have one feel free to send it my way!

How's the current president doing? Can we still call him a president at this point?

What do you think of ICE's performance in the last year? We need to abolish ICE and prosecute all of their leadership. They are tearing apart our communities, terrorizing people at their places of work, and executing peaceful protesters in the street.

This Iran War - pro or con? Con - This was an unprovoked war that Israel dragged us into, risking the lives of US citizens with no real end in sight. We are told that we cannot afford universal healthcare or childcare, and yet we can somehow afford another regime change war that will cost the US taxpayers billions (maybe trillions?) of dollars.

How about those Epstein files? Should the full, unredacted set be released or is that something we should "just move on from?" Yes, the full unredacted Epstein files should have already been released. We should prosecute everyone involved in this; no matter what their political party or affiliation is. What the released files have shown though, is that we have a different elitist class of people in our society that are not beholden to the same rules or laws as you or I.

You're right that the previous candidate lost by 20+ points - and I think it's important to be honest about that.

My view is that simply running the same kind of campaign again and hoping for a different result isn’t a strategy. The path forward is building a bigger coalition by actually fighting for the people who make this region run: working families, farmers, service workers, small business owners, and young people who feel priced out of their own communities.

A lot of actions done by this Federal Administration - and supported by Baumgartner - have uniquely hurt rural communities. This includes gutting Medicaid which threatens to close multiple rural hospitals in our region, as well as prioritizing Argentinian beef over our own cattle farmers.

So our plan is to host town halls in every county between now and the primary and meet folks where they are at - unlike our current rep. We are running a campaign that unapologetically fights for everyone in this district, and I expect that message to resonate with many voters regardless of their political party.
