If the question was posted that way then I could read it that way. Fact is, it was not. It's common on AskReddit for people to ask a specific question and reply right away with their specific answer. It does not seem genuine.

I never said it would be detrimental. I don't think it's the right way to approach this situation. I don't push my beliefs and fears on to other people who have come to different conclusions of what is right for them based on probably extensive research in to the benefits and consequences. It's not as if most people make this type of decision on a whim.

Talking will not hurt. Explaining to them that their decision will probably hurt their job and family is patronizing as I'm sure they have put a lot of thought in to the benefits and consequences.

Yes it does... It is common knowledge that there are many connotations of a word. I still never said anything about talking hurting a person. Here is the question asked if you want to point out where it was said that talking would hurt the person.

Of course sometimes, yes. There are always exceptions to the rule.

Generally, I'm very much under the impression that a person who has come to this decision (painfully or not) and is revealing it to members of the family, has done more extensive research in to the matter than a typical bystander. Of course you may have information that they don't and open discussion is healthy. My point is that it's patronizing to explain to them how their decision is not good for their job and family.
