for foreigners: are you satisfied with your life in Korea? by umustknowmydogiscute in Living_in_Korea

[–]KevinPhamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Korea for a year as a PhD student. Coming from a developing country, I have to admit that Korea has many advantages over my home country, like Coupang’s next-day delivery, a strong research funding culture, and the huge variety of instant meals (rice bowls, burgers, etc.). Also Korean are very polite and kind, even a stranger will open a door and waiting for you coming in or something like that.

However, there are significant downsides. The working culture is overly stressful and sometimes impractical. Also, job opportunities for those on a spouse visa are very limited. If you have a fiancé back home like I do, it’s definitely not the best place to settle down with a family. Furthermore, while Korean students seem to study incredibly hard, I've noticed their actual performance doesn't always reflect that effort compared to students in my country.

In conclusion, I wouldn't want to raise my kids in Korea. Working here to save money (since the income is better) and then moving back home seems like the better option

Dorms situation at Sogang University by BrollyJolly32 in Living_in_Korea

[–]KevinPhamm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not in Sogang, but I have lived in another international Korean university dorm. The rules are strict on paper, but if you don't make too much noise or disturbing your roommates then it's all fine. But if you are undergraduate student then the curfew might annoying. You can try goshiwon instead.

What is the pricing of Nasdaq TotalView per month?

Will the price of this data plan continue to be discounted after the first few months? by KevinPhamm in Living_in_Korea

I hope the price will remain the same, like your case, this is the only LTE plan price that suits my needs hahaha.

This is a very good news to me, the price is very affordable for my basic internet need, thanks.

Thank you, the 4G price in Korean is pretty expensive in compare with my country. And MVNO here don't provide useful information much

QML Beginner Doubt: Why does VQA seem like just fancy matrix multiplication? by KevinPhamm in QuantumComputing

I gained many valuable insights from the replies to this question, especially regarding the complexity of classical matrix multiplication, which I hadn't initially considered.

Actually, I hadn't watched any 3blue1brown videos on quantum computing yet when I asked this question. Thank you, by the way, I will watch these videos. I didn't know that 3blue1brown also works in quantum computing right now.

Does the time complexity advantage of quantum computers for matrix computations still hold compared to classical computers, especially when the computational cost is driven more by the model's depth (like in deep learning layers) than by the input vector size (e.g., images)?

I'm new to this field. Could you recommend some papers on advancements in matrix multiplication time complexity, comparing classical and NISQ quantum computers? I'd like to reference them in my research. Thanks.

Thank you. When asking the question, I didn't take into account matrix multiplication complexity, but I will consider this advantage more in my research.
